The prospective timetable is simply too long. Nearly everyone burns out after six months of study. At that point, many perform poorly on the GMAT and lack the energy to recover. Preparing for over one year is too dangerous and, quite frankly, not worth your time.

Fortunately, this is something that we can improve. Hussain15 has posted some very helpful links. Please review them, and if you have further, don't hesitate to ask!

I second that. I have been preparing since long, but because of one reason or another- not intentionally- I had to shift my plan.

The last thing you want is to lose the confidence. So keep your spirits high and beat the beast.

Do not forget to learn fundamentals before practicing the questions.

Do regular revisions of concepts. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice so far everyone. I guess I won't go into a full study session until I know for certain when I will be taking my first GMAT. For now what I will do is just focus on my studies for this semester and the next, then start my full out assault of GMAT prep starting in the summer. Of course if I have a bit of extra time I will start to at least go over the fundamentals (especially quant), but nothing over the top.

GPA has to be decent too to accompany an awesome GMAT score. Trying to go top 10, so everything is going to have to be in order.

make sure you stick at it solidly for the 3-6 mths with no breaks. That's what I did and I've only JUST started to catch up again to where I was!
