Hi Everyone,
I am planning to appear for the GMAT again in August and most probably will be starting with the mocks from July.
Earlier, it was advisable not to give more than 1-2 complete mocks in a week in order to avoid the burnout before the actual exam. However due to the recent changes in the GMAT exam, which allows us to choose the section beforehand, do we need to update our strategy regarding the mocks? My two questions are:
1) Whether it would be a good strategy to skip AWA and IR and to give only the Q and V section of the mocks considering I would be choosing V-Q-IR-Awa in the actual exam?
2) How frequently should we give the mocks if we are only solving Q and V sections?

If you haven't taken a FULL CAT yet (in a realistic way), then you should take one soon. There are aspects to the GMAT that you can only learn by taking realistic CATs at regular intervals (so waiting until the 'end' of your studies to take practice CATs would be a mistake).
A CAT is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to put in the necessary practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. As such, you really shouldn't take more than 1 FULL CAT per week.
Many Business Schools expect applicants to score at a certain minimal level on the Essay (generally a 4.0 or higher) - so the idea that you would 'skip' the Essay during your practice is a questionable choice.

Thanks for your reply. Not only have I taken many mocks but also have appeared for the actual exam last year. As I didn't get the desired score, I stopped studying as I was very upset. Stamina/focus in the verbal section was one of the factors that I had an issue with.
So I started my studies again in April and I think i have revised almost all the concepts and OG practice questions. Therefore I was thinking to give a few mocks with only the V and Q section because realistically these section determine my score. Though that doesn't mean that I won't be studying AWA and IR. Maybe the last few mocks before my exams I would give the entire mocks.
The few advantages that I think I might get are:
1) I will be able to take more CAT's/ week without a burnout as technically now I would be spending only 2.5 hrs per mock as compared to 4hrs per mock.
2) I would be attempting V-Q-IR-AWA in the actual exam, so attempting V and Q sections at the start of a CAT would be more like the actual exam.
What are your views?
