The 180 students in a group are to be seated in rows so that there is an equal number of students in each row. Each of the following could be the number of rows EXCEPT

(A) 4
(B) 20
(C) 30
(D) 40
(E) 90
Check visibility of given number against 180. Reminder should be 0. If not getting reminder 0 then that is the answer.

The question is expecting us to answer in whole numbers and check divisibility of 180.
180/40 = 4.25 which is not a whole number

Answer is D.
180/4 is 45 students in one row.
180/20 means 9 students in one row.
180/30 means 6 students in one row.
180/90 means 2 students in one row
and not equal in each row if no of rows is 40

40 is the answer because there is not a half person expected to be seated in each row and not a full factor of 180.

Except D rest all are factors of 180 so 40 is the only number which doesnt give as a factor of 180.

if 40 people are in a row then it would 4.5 rows to be exact 180 people.

180/40=4.5

hence, option D(40) is the answer

FACTORISE 180= 2x90=2*2*45=2*2*3*3*5, Except 40, All can be product of factors of two or more.
