      Subject-Verb Disagreement

    B) are a class of young painters concentrating
      Subject-Verb Disagreement

    C) is a class of young painters who concentrate
      C resolves all errors. C is the winner!


    D) is a class of young painters who had concentrated
      The usage of Past-Perfefct in the absence of any other past verb makes option D incorrect.

D) is a class of young painters who had concentrated "had concentrated " Tense error no past tense in the sentence which requires the use of past perfect here

E) a class of young painters are concentrating - here a class - what does here refer to...changes the meaning

C) is a class of young painters who concentrate - correct answer

D) is a class of young painters who had concentrated - no needs for past perfect because we don't have action in past tense

This question is an “inverted style question”, where in question is checking at the correct verb for the “class of young painters”. Since it is a singular, look for “is” in option choice.
Thus, we are just left with option C and D.
Between C and D, split is in verb 1st form and had + verb 3rd form. Since the 1st part of sentence uses “is elated” that is “simple present”, we want “simple present” in later half as well. Thus, making C as our right choice.

A) are a class of young painters who concentrate - SVA error; a class of young painters is a singular entity - "is" will be in place of "are"

B) are a class of young painters concentrating - Same error as A

C) is a class of young painters who concentrate - Correct - SVA is maintained

D) is a class of young painters who had concentrated - Past participle is not by anyhow needed here.

E) a class of young painters are concentrating - missing helping verb is here;
