Let the number of computers sold = x
Compensation of A = 3000 + 30(x − 40) for x > 40 ⇒ A = 1800 + 30x
Compensation of B = 60x
Given A is 25% more than B:
1800 + 30x = 1.25 × 60x
1800 + 30x = 75x
1800 = 45x
x = 40
But the equation for A is valid only for x > 40.

Checking the boundary condition
At x = 40, A = 3000 and B = 2400, i.e, A is 25% more than B

Answer: B

ExpertsGlobal5
The compensation of person A is a fixed salary of $3,000 plus $30 for each additional computer sold after the first 40. The compensation of person B is straightaway $60 per computer sold. For a sale of how many computers each is the compensation of A 25% more than that of B?

A. 30
B. 40
C. 50
D. 60
E. 70
