Okay, lets work with what we have here: I think both should use the same year 2015/2016.

1. More gorillas than lions were born in this zoo in 2015.
No. we dont know population of individual animals so cant say.

2. In 2015, this zoo had more ostriches born in captivity than any other zoo in the country.
No. This zoo has 20% national share and is 4th so the other 3 must have >20. assuming min numbers for rank 2 and rank 3 as little over 20% we have rest <40% at most. and the % can be anything less than 57%. So essentially, it could be possible that the statement may/ may not be true.

I assume this is where the OA and I differ, and my belief is the OA might say "Yes" based on the fact that the Rank 1 is based on number of ostriches born in captivity and not the % national share? But, yeah Sajjad1994 please correct me.

3. More giraffes in this zoo were born in the wild than in captivity.
No. So we may have 5% of national captivity born in this zoo but it could still be a major portion of the zoo as we don't know the proportion of total national captivity

Official Explanation

Statement 1: The zoo had a greater share of the nation’s gorillas, but that doesn’t tell us how many gorillas or lions the zoo had in all.

Answer: No

Statement 2:In 2015, this zoo ranked first in the country for ostriches born in captivity.

Answer: Yes

Statement 3:The table compares giraffes at this zoo with the giraffe population at other zoos, but it does not compare giraffes at this zoo that were born in the wild with giraffes at this zoo that were born in captivity, so we can’t be sure this statement is true.

Answer: No

But we have also been provided national share of population in the 1st column, right?  So,if we assume total population as 100 then we can get the population of gorillas as 93 and population of lions as 48.The ans should be yes in my opinion.Feel free to point out flaw in my method

The question is not very clear on the data being only of 2015. Since it does not categorically says the captivity births are for 2015 or for entire duration till now. The answer for first two options could be NO straightway if we take the data on captivity be for all the years till now.

But the intended answers speak otherwise, so I’ll answer taking the data to be only of 2015.

Q.1. We are asked to give relation between two data’s which are not interconnected.

Both could be exactly same, say 100, in number in national population, then clearly more births in captivity for Gorillas.

But say Gorillas strength is 100, so 93 are in this zoo. Also, they if 50 are born in captivity nationally, the zoo has 24 born in captivity.
On the other hand, if the national strength of lion is 1000, this zoo has 140. And if 500 are born in captivity, this zoo could have almost 18% of 500 or 90.
Answer is opposite.
Hence, NO.

Q.2. In 2015, this zoo had more ostriches born in captivity than any other zoo in the country.
Doesn’t matter what the strength is, the last column clearly gives it to be first nationally.
Hence YES.

Q.3. More giraffes in this zoo were born in the wild than in captivity.
Giraffes 16% of total population and 5% of total born in captivity. But there is no connectivity between bold portions.
Hence No.

imRaj, I hope it clears your query.
