No touchpad for X61, damn it

Windows XP,Under 3lbs, 12 or 13" screen ,6-8 hr battery life and most imp: touchpad

Could any one recommend which laptop would fit my criteria

PS: Under 1500$

personally I can't stand the touchpad, but if you're willing to wait (until they come out with the hard drive version) or spend more money (roughly $2500), the X300 has both touchpad and nub.

Check out the SL series or the IdeaPads? Those have touchpads.

doesn't bother me. The reason I went for thinkpad is because of their touchpoint. :) Can't stand the touchpad.

Hey Kryzak (and anyone else who can answer):

Looking at the W500 order sheet, and it seems that they only have 1, 2, or 3 gb's of memory available. I was thinking about ordering just the 2 gb one (with 1 dimm) and installing a second one myself, for a total of 4. Would this be any different than waiting for a 4 gb spec'ed one from Lenovo? Also, any idea if they're coming out with 4 gb, 1 dimm ones anytime soon? Apparently, these are able to support up to 8 gb's, but I'm not sure if this tech even exists yet.

Additionally, they mentioned that a 2.8 ghz dual core processor will be released for the system "sometime." Right now, only the 2.53 ghz one is available. Is it worth waiting?

you should be able to easily add another 2GB memory on there with no problems.

If you need your computer soon, I wouldn't wait. 2.53MHz is fast enough. You may not notice the difference between 2.53 and 2.8.

The X200 came out and then now it's gone again from their website, strange.

I recently sold out my FS-Amilo Pro-V3205 and purchased IBM-X60 tablet pc. FS-Amilo Pro-V3205 was an awesome and extra portable machine with the drawback of batery life (2 Hrs max). IBM-X60 has a battery time of 8 Hrs :-D

I saw that. The reason for them taking it down was apparently due to some pricing error regarding the SSD's. The people who ordered it with the wrong price are getting free 64 gb SSD's as compensation!

Does anyone know where one can get a cheap x61 non-tablet 8-cell battery. In other words, I would rather not pay $179.99 from lenovo AND wait more than a month... any reputable small websites/ebay etc?

probably ebay would be your best bet, or sites like Newegg.com. Check Pricegrabber or Google Shopping.

Lenovo actually sends out stuff they have pretty quickly. Usually within 2 weeks (door to door)
