48 = 24*2
72 = 24*3

there is no GCD of 2 and 3 except 1 therefore GCF of 48 and 72 = 24

48 = $$3$$ * $$2^4$$
72 = $$3^2$$ * $$2^3$$

From both the numbers $$3$$ * $$2^3$$ is common for both.

So GCD is $$3$$ * $$2^3$$ = $$24$$

24*2 = 48
24*3 = 72

Hence, Answer must be (D) 24
