The krill, an abundant shrimp-like marine crustacean that inhabits the bottom of oceans, represents one of many organism survival story: along with the huge sized whales, the star fish, and other species that cohabit the ocean, they have set themselves up as highly adaptive creatures in an age when the capability to adapt to the climatic alteration introduced by Earth's ever changing landscape has created a successive group of dominant sea creatures.

(A) they have set themselves up as highly adaptive creatures in an age when the capability
(B) it has set itself up as a highly adaptive creature in an age when to be able
(C) they have set themselves up as being highly adaptive creatures in an age when being able
(D) it has set itself up as a highly adaptive creature in an age when its ability
(E) it has set itself up as a highly adaptive creature in an age when the ability

points to look at..
1) Pronoun - THEY has no antecedents as ' the krill' is singular and should have IT as pronoun.
2) ability - the ability is mentioned in general terms so requires article THE and not possessive its

Only E has both error corrected

The pronoun they is talking about the Krill and it is singular hence “it has” is appropriate to use and they have is not correct.
As highly adaptive is incorrect and is missing an article a – “as a highly adaptive creature.”
When the ability is correct since we are not talking about the ability of the creature but the effect on the ability by the climatic altercation.

Is this a 600-700 level question? The splits seem too obvious to be on the dreaded GMAT.

Hi all,

Every option, is n't a run-on sentence?, no coordinating conjuction between two independent clauses

".........oceans, represents one of many organism survival story: along with the huge sized whales, the star fish, and other species that cohabit the ocean, they have set themselves up as highly adaptive creatures in an age when the capability ...."
