Hi

I doubt "B" is the correct answer. Answer to important question "why the ladies decided to use the last year's decoration" is missing from the answer. "D" is another answer that looks plausible, but it has meaning changed. It seems to indicate to a particular decoration that was used last year to save money.

I choose "A" as the correct answer.

Please explain why "B" is correct.

The ladies on the neighborhood decorating committee decided to use last year's decorations to save money since the decorations were the same as the ones used last year.


(A) use last year's decorations to save money since the decorations were the same as the ones used last year. (Grammatically correct but wordy)
(B) save money by using last year's decorations. (Concise and Correct)
(C) save money by using the same decorations that were being used last year. (Usage of passage is not preferable)
(D) use the decorations that were used last year to save money. (Same as C)
(E) save money and use decorations that were the same decorations that had been used last year. (Same as C)

Answer to the important question "why did they decide to do so" is given in B. We are given they decided to save money and then how they will save money.(By using last year's decorations). So, there is nothing wrong in B.

Why is D awkward? I feel B is preferred over D because of concision

D changes the meaning.
Purpose of using last year's decorations is to save money.
But is D, purpose is not defined.
Meaning of D -> Committee decided to use Decorations.
Which decorations? Those decorations that were used last year.
What last year's decorations did? Those decorations saved money last year. (not current year).

Isn't B committing the reason why they are using the same decorations as last year.

I chose A .
Only because of this reason.

Please help me out whether i am wrong .
