Hi Dessa,
Thanks for your reply. I have received my communications from her as well. Unfortunately it seems that she isn't even part of the admissions team. She holds only an administrative position.

As a previous applicant who got interviewed.. I would say around 45-50% of those interviewed get accepted. LBS's waitlist seems very small. R1 has only 2-3 people reported in GC to be on waitlist.

is it some insider info? cause people reporting their results here is not a representative sample..

Hi,
I live in London too and have many friends who are and have been to LBS. I can not say my data are "insider info" but I would like to believe what my contacts have told me in past.
Cheers.

I was one of the waitlisted people (after interview) in R1 . I can vouch for the fact that I defintiely saw many more than 2-3 waitlisted people on gmatclub. In fact, if I remember right, I'd say the number of waitlists was pretty close to that of the number of admits. In contrast, there didnt seem to be a whole lot of dings however!

For those interviewing, here’s my R1 experience and some key takeaways. Hope the post isn’t too long. Send me a PM for more details.

In case you don’t already know, LBS provides your full application to your interviewer, which naturally gives some insight into your strengths and weaknesses and lends itself to an in-depth interview. What your interviewer does with this info is obviously up to him or her. It seems, based on other debriefs, that some will stick to stock interview questions (why MBA, why LBS, short & long term goals, give me an example of …) and expect you to give answers different from your essays.

Another possibility is that your interviewer will dive into your weaknesses. This was definitely my experience, as my interviewer didn’t ask any of the usual MBA questions. After a couple minutes having me share some stories about my resume, he started asking about how my previous experience pertained to my future goals. I wrote in my essays about viewing LBS as bit of a launch pad into international work but was also upfront about how I currently lack international experience. My interviewer kept saying that he didn’t see how my previous experience pertained to my future goals and then would ask me to explain/clarify. I kept bringing it back to how LBS would fill this gap in my experience. This circle of questioning ultimately made me nervous and a bit defensive towards him hammering me on a weakness I was very upfront about in my essays. Needless to say, the interview was not going well, and I was starting to feel my dream school slipping away.

Ultimately, he admitted that he was testing me and pushing me to better sell myself. I wish I had perceived that at the time. Rather than recognizing the test, I thought he was actually suggesting I wasn’t qualified for LBS and my goals were pointless. I must have rebounded really well in the impromptu presentation, however, because when I finished, he told me it was the best he had seen in his several years of LBS interviews. I left the interview with very mixed feelings, but in the end, I was accepted.

So a couple takeaways. First, LBS interviews can vary immensely. It ultimately depends on the personality of your interviewer, and since they have your full application, they can take the interview wherever they want. Second, your interviewer may try to test you or push you. While it may come across as abrasive, don’t be fooled into thinking that your interviewer is actually questioning your qualifications. If you’re invited to interview, there are certainly no deal breakers in your application. Just remember that you are undoubtedly a potential fit for the school.

Thanks a lot for your insight Redneck2011. I received an interview invite and the LBS interview definitely makes me nervous. The fact that the interviewer has access to the entire application kind of scares me. I will only have 4 years of work experience by September. So I'm definitely expecting a few questions about that. Do you have any advice?

I unfortunately can't attend (although I'm based in NYC) was wondering through what americans (though i guess it applies to all non-EU) are thinking about visa issues post-grad. If they address it at the event, can you fill me in?

That is a very good point. If those attending the event could share with us any update on this matter, it would be of great help.

Hi redneck2011,

Thanks for your superb and insightful summary of your LBS interview. One of the most succinct I have come across with good pointers. Received my invite and somewhat apprehensive as I feel that there are quite a few concerns in my application.

Ditto on this. Also, if anything comes up about dependents' permission to work on our student visas, let us know. This is a big concern for my wife and I.

Thanks all! Glad to help anyway I can. Do keep in mind that there's a good chance you won't get someone who drills you on your weaknesses. I wouldn’t want everybody to think that LBS comes down hard on every interviewee. There seems to be high variability in how the interviews can go. Again, it depends on your interviewer’s personality/preference.

My thoughts on the best ways to prepare are as follows. First, read through your application several times so you know every detail. You’ll want to remain consistent in your answers, and your interviewer may choose to ask some pointed questions.

Second, have a good handle on the more traditional MBA questions, as you’re very likely (my experience excepted) to encounter some of them. Clear Admit's LBS Interview guide is a good reference. The more insightful stories you have from work to address these questions, the better.

Finally, take some time to anticipate potential weaknesses in your application, and then think about how you would address them. But always keep in mind that weaknesses are okay. If they were seriously problems, LBS wouldn’t be interviewing you in the first place. If your interviewer chooses to go into your weaknesses, the best way to overcome them is to either sell yourself in spite of them or demonstrate how you can overcome them. Zidoas & bseb, in the case of your shorter careers, for example, your interviewer could hypothetically try to test the value of your work experience by asking extensively about how you plan to draw from it to contribute in class. Having solid ideas for club contribution and how your career experience will be valuable in class could overcome this. Obviously, I can’t think of every example you might encounter, but hopefully you get the idea.

Happy to talk with anybody further on chat or over PM.

Cheers!

Wasn't aware of the LBS thread until today.

Got a R2 invite on Feb 8, 2011 ~ 9 PM (GMT) and another email on Feb 9, 2011 ~12PM about matching me with an interviewer.

I work for a European Consulting firm, will be 29 with 5 years of experience in Sept 2011, African.
Good luck to everyone.

@ding-ed, I hope you get invites from other schools.
@all: Whatever the outcome, remember that this is just an MBA. My own emotions have ebbed and flowed as I waited for the email. It looked silly in the end, all the "Ctrl R" and GMATclub stalking :). The good thing I take away from it all though: no degree is bigger than our goals, if one is we probably do not deserve it.

In Entrepreneurship (Tech), how would you compare LBS to Stanford or Harvard (curriculum, alumni network, various rankings, things you have heard)?
