(A) SVA Issue. Subject is singular "The odd shape", but main verb is "give".

(D) No main clause. 
(E) Written this way, "The Dodo" can only be interpreted as an appositive of "some paleontologists", but such association is nonsensical.

Eliminate A because ‘give’ is plural. It should be singular. Also, pronoun ‘they’ can’t refer back to the Dodo.

Eliminate B because of SV error mentioned above.

Eliminate D because there is no clause after the comma.

Eliminate E because the sentence is convoluted and hard to understand. A comma after ‘some paleontologists believe’ would have made the sentence clearer. (Noticed it later, C just does that. Also, the placement of the Dodo is more apt)

C remains and is the correct answer.
