A) The odd shape of the animal, along with the tiny wings, give the Dodo a clumsy demeanor and make it look unintelligent, but some paleontologists believe they were much more capable than such depictions would suggest.

s-V Agreement error; {In addition to/ along with/as well as-do not make the compound subject plural as done by "and"} we need a singular verb here -So, Eliminate

B) The odd shape of the animal, in addition to the tiny wings, give the Dodo a clumsy demeanor and make it look unintelligent, and some paleontologists believe it was much more capable than such depictions would suggest.

s-V Agreement error; {In addition to/ along with/as well as-do not make the compound subject plural as done by "and"} we need a singular verb here -So, Eliminate

C) Often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, the Dodo, some paleontologists believe, was much more capable than such depictions would suggest.

The sentence is gametically correct and expresses the meaning with lost contrast- so let us keep it in the list while we analyze other options

D) Even though the Dodo is often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, some paleontologists believing that it was much more capable than such depictions would suggest.

No verb for "some paleontologists" also changes the meaning slightly- so, Eliminate

E) The Dodo, often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, some paleontologists believe was much more capable than such depictions would suggest.

No verb for "The Dodo"- Eliminate

C is the best in the lot with no grammatical errors and close to meaning with lost contrast -I ll go with C

Eliminate A because ‘give’ is plural. It should be singular. Also, pronoun ‘they’ can’t refer back to the Dodo.

Eliminate B because of SV error mentioned above.

Eliminate D because there is no clause after the comma.

Eliminate E because the sentence is convoluted and hard to understand. A comma after ‘some paleontologists believe’ would have made the sentence clearer. (Noticed it later, C just does that. Also, the placement of the Dodo is more apt)

C remains and is the correct answer.

A) The odd shape of the animal, along with the tiny wings, give the Dodo a clumsy demeanor and make it look unintelligent, but some paleontologists believe they were much more capable than such depictions would suggest. -> give is incorrect. We have a subject, The odd shape, so we need singular verb. Incorrect.

B) The odd shape of the animal, in addition to the tiny wings, give the Dodo a clumsy demeanor and make it look unintelligent, and some paleontologists believe it was much more capable than such depictions would suggest. -> Same as A.

C) Often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, the Dodo, some paleontologists believe, was much more capable than such depictions would suggest. -> No error as such. Let's keep it.

D) Even though the Dodo is often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, some paleontologists believing that it was much more capable than such depictions would suggest. -> believing, It is a tense error. Incorrect.

E) The Dodo, often depicted as an unintelligent, oddly shaped animal with tiny wings and a clumsy demeanor, some paleontologists believe was much more capable than such depictions would suggest. -> We have NO verb for "The Dodo". Incorrect.

So, I think C. :)
