A:B:E=1:2:5
x+3: 2x-3+6:5x-6
x+3:2x+3:5x-6=3:5:8
=> x+3/2x+3=3/5
=>5x+15=6x+9
x=6;

check 2x+3/5x-6=15/24=5/8 (ok)

5x=30

The ratio of marbles collected by Amir, Babu and Enam is 1:2:5. If Babu gives 3 marbles to Amir and receives 6 marbles from Enam the ratio becomes 3:5:8. How many marbles did Enam have?

(A) 25
(B) 30
(C) 35
(D) 45
(E) None of these

if x = 6 then why cant we multiply it by 8 because in the new ratio enam has proportion of 8

Since A : B : E = x : 2x : 5x and x = 6, then Enam has 5x = 30 marbles.

A' : B' : E' = (x + 3) : (2x + 3) : (5x - 6) = 3 : 5 : 8 is the ratio in a hypothetical scenario IF Babu gives 3 marbles to Amir and receives 6 marbles from Enam. IF this were to happen, then Enam would have 5x - 6 = 24 marbles.

Quick (but Risky) Method Using Options:

Since the final ratio becomes 3:5:8 and Enam gives away 6 marbles, we look for an option where:

Initial number − 6 = a multiple of 8

This is because Enam ends up with a quantity proportional to 8 parts of the total.
Among the options, 30 works since:

30 − 6 = 24, which is divisible by 8.

Thus, 30 is the likely answer.
