While I think D is right because of parallelism - THAT X and THAT Y.

Can someone clarify if the phrase "quite an elaborate and improbable" in option B is an adverb? Or whether "elaborate" and "improbable evolution" are the verbs in this option?

The relationship between the yucca plant and the yucca moth shows that the mutual dependence of plants and insects sometimes has an evolution that is quite elaborate and improbable and such relationships ensure the survival of both species.

A. has an evolution that is quite elaborate and improbable and Incorrect

.....the mutual dependence......has an evolution.....

B. has quite an elaborate and improbable evolution and Incorrect

.....the mutual dependence......has quite an elaborate and improbable evolution

C. quite elaborately, and improbably, evolves, so Incorrect

Run on sentence - after 'improbably' ', ' is not required

.....so such......

D. evolves quite elaborately and improbably and that Correct

E. evolves quite elaborately, quite improbably, and Incorrect

parallelism error ........quite elaborately, quite improbably, and such relationships.....

Hi winterschool,

I understood why C and E are out. Why are options A and B out as well.? If you could explain in detail it'll be great.

Thank you :)

The relationship between the yucca plant and the yucca moth shows that

'the mutual dependence of plants and insects sometimes has an evolution that is quite elaborate and improbable and such relationships ensure the survival of both species'.

above portion of sentence without modifier -

'the mutual dependence sometimes has an evolution that is quite elaborate and improbable and such relationships ensure the survival of both species'

'the mutual dependence has an evolution..' - sounds awkward, the mutual dependence itself an evolution

B same as A

without modifier - 'the mutual dependence sometimes has quite an evolution...'

'of plants and insects' and 'elaborate and improbable' - both are modifier in B

both A & B have redundant word, D is short and better

Hope its clear Nups1324
