Can anyone explain Question 1 and 2.. I choose option C for both the questions.
1. According to the passage, all of the following are true of Toxoplasma gondii EXCEPT
(A) it can contaminate ground water - This was mentioned in last para (
These oocysts are shed in the cats' droppings and contaminate ground water and soil,)(B) it enters the human body through the food chain - This was mentioned in last para same line (
eventually finding their way into the food chain.)(C) it can alter the usual behavior of human cells - Correct
(D) the human body is incapable of detecting it - This was mentioned many times that immune system can't detect it.
(E) it must find a host cat in order to reproduce - This was mentioned in last para
I do understand that option D was not specifically mentioned in the passage, but it was hinted through immune system. On the other hand option C was not all mentioned in the passage apart from dendetic cells. Will like to hear why others eliminated option C.
2. It can be inferred from the passage that which of the following statements is true of dendritic cells in the human body?
(A) They are produced by the lymphatic system. - Not mentioned in the passage
(B) They are more numerous in the digestive tract than in any other part of the human body. - Not mentioned in the passage
(C) Most dendritic cells of persons infected with Toxoplasma carry the parasite. - This is a true statement
(D) They are the only cells capable of being infected by Toxoplasma. - Not mentioned in the passage
(E) They are able to penetrate the membranes surrounding the brain. - Functionality of how they transport were mentioned and didn't mention whether cells itself are penetrating or not. So, removed E.
I know Inference will bring new idea, but it have to be true in the context of the passage. So, now a question about inference type questions is whether they have to be 100% true in order to be valid? or can have gaps in the logic?
