Easy peasy question

It is given that the sum of the roots a and b is 2 and the sum of their cubes is 26. Hence
a + b = 2 and a^3 + b^3 = 26
WKT (a+b)^3 = a^3 + b^3 + 3a^2b+ 3ab^2

2^3 = 26 + 3ab(a+b) --> 8-26 = 3ab*2
Therefore ab = -3

Now we plug these values in the equations above and check the options
Since ab = -3, c must be -3
Since a+b = 2, b must be -2.

Option A matches the conditions i.e
x^2 -2x -3 = 0

Roots of the equation a,b are such that
a+b=2
\( a^3+b^3=26\\

(a+b)^3=a^3+b^3+3ab(a+b)\\
8 = 26+6ab\\
ab=-3\\
Equation : \\
x^2-(a+b)x+ab=0\\
x^2-2x-3=0 \\
\)

(a) is the answer
