Hi Chetan2u,

I have a doubt regarding the question stem.
IMO qstn stem should be reworded something like : For each of the following, select Supported if the statement listed can be properly inferred as true from the information. Otherwise, select Not supported.

Because what I understood from the qstn stem was that whether we can make any inference about the statements given in the qstn. If yes then supported, otherwise not supported.

Pls share your thoughts on this

Hi chetan2u where can I find in question the infor in yellow?
chetan2u
Not an easy question. But you can expect to see such a question if you are scoring high in DI.
Explanation

Information given:
a) 30 million gallon per year in 2017
b) 30 million gallon + gallons produced through new constructions in subsequent years.
c) Pacific ethanol was producing 40% of that capacity or 12 million gallon in 2017 at a plant in IA.

1. United States ethanol production in 2019 will be more than three times that in 2017.
We have to answer whether production in 2019 will be at least 90 million gallons as it was 30 million gallon in 2017.
2019: Let us take all those completed in 2019 too to have contributed to total production.
sort the year of construction:
22 million gallons additional in 2018 over and above 30 million gallons.
9 million gallons additional in 2019 over and above 30+22 million gallons.
Total 61 which is not triple of 30.
Hence NOT supported.

2. Flint Hills did not produce more than 25% of total production in 2022 if no other new project was started.
We are given that there were no other new project that were started, so the total production in 2022 will remain same as in 2021 after completion of all the given under construction projects.
Total production = 30 + 100(new projects) or 130 million gallons.
We have to find whether Flint house produced not more than 25% of 130, that is 32.5 million gallon.
Sort the data as per project name.
Flint house = 11 in new projects.
In the existing 30 million gallon, at least 12 was by Pacific Ethanol. Hence, Flint house could have produced maximum 30-12 or 18 million gallon.
Thus, maximum possible by Flint house can be 11+18 or 29 million gallons, which is less than 25% of total.
Hence, supported.

3. CA(California) will be the largest producer of ethanol in US after the completion of all projects.
Sort the data by states
CA has 48, which is highest of all the productions through new construction.
Combined CA has at least 48, while IA has at least 47 ( 35 new and 12 old).
But we are not told anything about remaining 30-12 or existing 18 million gallons. It could easily take the number of IA higher than CA.
Hence, NOT supported.
