Total Number of Drivers : 17 +13 + 21 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 60
So, the median number of accidents per year should be between the 30th and the 31st driver
The 30th driver had committed 1 accident
The 31st driver had committed 2 accidents

The median = 1+2 /2 = 1.5 accidents per year

My answer is C.

Explanation:
If we list the given info in sequence we will be writing as 17 zeros, 13 ones, 21 twos etc.
Since there are 60 drivers (even no.), the median will come between 30th (n/2) driver sec. and 31st (n/2 + 1) driver sec. We can already see that starting at the zero end, the 30th driver will be in the ones section of the list, but the 31st driver will be in the twos section. Hence the median is 1.5.

Good one.

You don't have to do any calculations for this one.Just see the no. of drivers who said that they encountered 0,1,2 no. of accidents.Its hunge as compared to all others.Hence,the answer will be less than 2 but more than 1.
And since here the choices are quite easy,the answer is C i.e 1.5.

Isn't the table showing the accidents over 5 years? If yes, shouldn't the avg be 1.5/5?

Isn't the table showing the accidents over 5 years? If yes, shouldn't the avg be 1.5/5?

We are not asked to find the average per year; we are asked to find the median, which is simply the middle value for an odd number of terms, or the average of the two middle terms for an even number of terms, when the terms are arranged in order.

Alright, but the table is giving numbers for 5 years, now the median for each year can be different right? As in, there can be a case where most off the accidents happened in the last year so the median for each of the years (1-5) would be different. So either we take it as an average of 5 years or wouldn't the info be insufficient for this question?
