we need 'than...
A - 'it' does not have a clear referent

E is best.

"as much.....as" is idiomatice and needed in correct answer choice --> B, C and D stand.
"it" in B and D doesn't have specific antecedent; it refers to either "energy" or "wind power" --> B and D out

C stands firm.

C?? I though it was E

Can you explain a bit more how to eliminate E?

I would go with E. Could you explain how C scores over E?

I also pick C, because if the statement read, much more than x, we could use than, but it slips the word "as" in there, and according to the idiom rule, its as much as.

kinda late, but I got C as well...

A) is out because of "then"

B) is out because of "it" (no antecedent)

D) same reason as B

E) same reason as A

didn't notice the idiom " as much....as" when I read the question, I guess I need to look at the question more carefully next time....

thanks for pointing it out, Laxieqv

Good explanation.

I had picked D, missed that it could refer to wind power also.
