Hi ashikaverma13,

Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your scores can become - and that's what happened here. By pausing your CATs during the Quant section (especially during times that you were 'stressed' about dealing with a particular question) - and seeing repeat questions (even if it was just during that one CAT retake), you were not probably training to face the 'pressure' that you felt when you took the actual GMAT.

Thankfully, that one issue is a relatively easy one to fix - you simply have to make sure that you take each CAT in as realistic and test-like a fashion as possible. The larger goal (to score 700+) will require that you make some significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Two months does give you plenty of time to make those improvements, as long as you can commit to a consistent, guided study plan.

Based on what you've described, you used a 'book heavy' study approach to prepare for this first attempt. Unfortunately, many Test Takers who use a book heavy study approach end up getting 'stuck' at a particular score level, so you'll likely end up needing to invest in some new non-book resources.

1) Have you schedule your next Official Test Date yet (and if so, then what is it?)?
2) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

i haven't scheduled or planned the official date for the exam yet.

i also haven't started preparing again, but i would be able to dedicate 20-25 hours a week initially hoping to increase it as the exam approaches.

Hi ashikaverma13,

Based on everything that you’ve described, I think that you would find the EMPOWERgmat Total Score Booster to be quite helpful. Most of our clients complete that Study Plan in well under 2 months, so the time commitment wouldn't be that bad. We have a variety of free resources on our site (www.empowergmat.com), so you can 'test out' the Course before setting up an Account.

If you have any additional questions, then you can feel free to contact me directly.

It seems to me you used materials like the OG, which are good and recommended, but really aren't the best for content review or for strategy. If you're still struggling with concepts, I think Manhattan books are the way to go. GMATPrepnow may also be useful, since it provides a nice review and some pretty good strategies (it's also free). Even if you are an expert in Math, you will suffer with gmat quant without strategies for elimination of alternatives and time management, for example. You gotta learn math, but also about tricks and traps.
