if you know the timeline the passage can be easily solved

2 gen per year

gen1
1. spring (hatch) - (some fully formed wing some not)
2. summer (reproduce and die)
3. eggs laid in 2 hatch in late summer - this is gen 2 (full wing)
4. live overwinter (gen2 and breed in spring)


Spring-summer- autumn (fall) - winter
