Hi all,
I only recently (shameful, I admit) found out that I need to complete a TOEFL exam for my MBA application. I'm originally from the Netherlands (where we start getting taught English at the age of 8-10). In addition, I've lived abroad almost continuously since I turned 18 (UK, Sweden, USA), and I've been living in New York City for over 3 years now. Essentially what I'm trying to get at, is that I feel very confident in my English capabilities.
As such, I have 2 questions:
Apologies if these are silly questions, I wasn't able to find an answer in some of the top topics!

- 1. Do I absolutely have to take the TOEFL exam or do top-MBA schools allow your introduction/resume to speak for itself?
- 2. If I do have to take it, how concerned should I be about actually studying for it?

TOEFL reuirements differ for different schools and countries.
Most of the schools waive TOEFL if you have studied in a university where English was a medium of instruction.
The best way would be to go to the FAQ sections of the schools that interest you and find out their requirements.
You might not have to prepare as intensively as you need to prepare for the GMAT, but you need to understand the nuances of the test.

Some top schools don't even waive TOEFL just because you studied using English as an instruction medium. I know that some only waive TOEFL when you studied in a university in English-speaking countries (e.g. US, CA, UK, AU, NZ, IE, etc). If you studied in Dutch, you almost for sure won't get a waiver even if you speak super fluently.
