We looked at our forum and counted the number of times each of the GMAT prep books has been mentioned by our members and created a popularity ranking.

Not sure about you, but I was surprised a little to see the books that made it to the top. On the other hand, the search results included all references starting with 2003, so potentially popularity of some books is inflated as others were not yet available back then. But again, at the end of March we will release the updated ranking that will reflect only results for March.

it depends on your weaknesses - if you wanted to cover A to Z, then yes, 8 Manhattan Guides and OG is the right way to go.
There are actually all 8 of them bundled up here to save $$$:
Thanks again for the rpy.I havn't tested my strengths and weakness yet, but would really appreciate if you could suggest any additional books which concentrate on geometry (i think the last time i studied it was during my 10th grade Q_Q)

There is MGMAT Geometry for one. Kaplan Math Workbook also has an extensive coverage. THere are a few others, but I can't remember the exact names right now.

Kaplan does not nearly go into the depth of MGMAT.
Kaplan has 3 books -Kaplan Premier, Kaplan Math Workbook, and Kaplan Verbal Workbook + Kaplan Math Foundations and Kaplan Verbal Foundations
MGMAT has 8 guides + MGMAT Math Foundations; MGMAT also relies on the OG for additional practice (which is nice to tie it in). You will get more practice and more online content with MGMAT as well.

I actually prepared using the Kaplan books (the three I listed) and got 750, but I do feel the MGMAT 8 guides are a stronger offering (though potentially are more time-consuming). My guess is that Kaplan agrees with me since they decided to purchase Manhattan GMAT a few days ago (confirmed-kaplan-test-prep-aquired-manhattan-gmat-88887.html)

Can someone please tell me the difference between the GMAT 800(by kaplan) and Kaplan Premier Program books?

Is it true that the only difference is that one comes with a CD and the other without? Perhaps people who have used one or both of these resources could shed some light?

Since the Kaplan books come highly recommended, I would like to get one of the above. I'm planning to get mine in a couple of days and am soo confused by the number of gmat books out there! Please help!

(FYI - I have the OG 11, OG 12 & Manhattan SC. If I focus on these + Kaplan will these resources suffice?)

both kaplan books have pretty bad reviews....would you recommend using them?

I am highlighting books that lost positions in red and books that gained positions in green.

The most interesting changes this month are:
  • Bundle of 8 Manhattan GMAT Guides is at 5th position!
  • Kaplan Verbal Workbook gained 10 positions (though after sliding 7 last month) so net gain is 3
  • The biggest loser is MGMAT Geometry Guide moving down 5 slots but again, that's after moving up 4 last month

Other than that, just minor movements among the usual suspects.

Hi! I want to buy the 8 Manhattan Review Guides, however i heard that the 4.edition was based on OG12 and OG Verbal and OG Quant 1. edition (written on the Beat the Gmat site). Since i already have the OG V&Q 2. edition, do you think that i shouldn't buy them? Will i still be able to use them completely? What would you suggest?

You can find a conversion table on Manhattan GMAT's website that helps you to use 4th edition with OG Quant 2 and OG Verbal 2.
So, you won't have any issues.

Thanks for the booklist. I started off using the Official Guide as everyone suggests. I guess it's a good introduction to the test, but as it clearly lacks any strategies one must complete it with one or more books. I'll tell you what I think after I finish the OG... see you in a few weeks time :lol:
