Would you please elaborate why the question is of poor quality? How do you measure the quality of the questions? It's difficult but looks perfectly fine to me. I may be wrong.
Thanks.

Why is it poor? what is the specific problem? Could you pl. give us your analysis of each choice and help us? or at least what the pronouns 'it' and 'them' stand for and how B is differing from A both grammatically and logically?

A comma + verb+ ing modifier describes either an extension, an impact or the result of the main action. This is what we want in this context. Therefore A fits in well.

B, on the contrary, uses a finite verb for describing a result. This criticism holds good also for E.

Art is a singular noun and therefore its pronoun should be 'it' and not 'them'--- Remove C.

D and E are stylistically flawed because of V -A -N) (the verb first, the adjective the second, and the noun finally)

Can you pls explain the V-A-N concept??

I have heard two idioms starting with distinguish i.e distinguish X from Y, and distinguish between X and Y.
Whether the idiom used in question is correct??
Secondly, isn't there is pronoun ambiguity in answer choice A. How can we come to know that it denotes for art??
Please help.

My reply is not for this question specifically, but those are not the only ways to use the word distinguish. To distinguish yourself means to do something that makes you stand out.

As for pronoun ambiguity, remember that ambiguity is not a major issue. Unless you have no other way to decide between the options you are left with, it's better to not reach for pronoun ambiguity. There are plenty of GMAT SC questions in which the correct option includes pronouns that are ambiguous.

Hi Sumit, why do you say there is pronoun ambiguity? What are the various nouns that it can refer to, in this sentence?

Hi Abhi, option E says:

The wealthy and influential .....made massive investment in all forms of art and created a widespread appreciation of it in all the social classes

So, this seems to suggest that the wealthy and influential did two separate things:
i) made massive investment...
ii) created widespread appreciation...

What is not very explicitly getting depicted in E, is that massive investment was the cause of creation of widespread appreciation.

Option A uses participial phrase (creating...), which is considered a good construct for depicting cause-effect.

p.s. Our book EducationAisle Sentence Correction Nirvana discusses Participial Phrases, their application and examples in significant detail. If you or someone is interested, PM me your email-id; I can mail the corresponding section.

Hello Sir,

Here the verb-ing modifier correctly presents the result of an action. I, however, feel that the subject of the modified clause should be plural.

1. patron of arts is mentioned
2. invested in all forms of arts

Don't you think as a result an appreciation for all forms of art would be created?

it should refer back to forms of art which can not happen and hence a plural pronoun is required.

Please help me understand why them is wrong. In my opinion "all forms of art" is plural and hence the correct pronoun should be "them"
