Essay 1: What matters most to you, and why? The best examples of Essay 1 reflect the process of self-examination that you have undertaken to write them. They give us a vivid and genuine image of who you are—and they also convey how you became the person you are. They do not focus merely on what you've done or accomplished. Instead, they share with us the values, experiences, and lessons that have shaped your perspectives. They are written from the heart and address not only a person, situation, or event, but also how that person, situation, or event has influenced your life. Essay 2: What do you want to do—REALLY—and why Stanford? Use this essay to explain your view of your future, not to repeat accomplishments from your past. You should address three distinct topics: your career aspirations the role of an MBA education in achieving those aspirations and your rationale for earning that MBA at Stanford, in particular. The best examples of Essay 2 express your passions or focused interests; explain why you have decided to pursue graduate education in management; and demonstrate your desire to take advantage of the opportunities that are distinctive to the Stanford MBA Program. Count me in for R2 (dinged after interview with Wharton last year) By the way anyone applying with your GRE scores? especially with the new format.

I'm actually going to ask them if I can submit both GRE and GMAT. Harvard has the option to enter both, but the Stanford app isn't clear on the issue. I couldn't find an answer online, so I'll probably give them a call at some point and ask.

Applying Round 1: GMAT: 760 (99%) 49q 46 v GPA: 3.81 Physics WE: 0 (college senior) but worked summers at GE and professors lab, as well as charity work for Autistic children in AFrica deferring for 2 years. stanford is a weird school. not too optimistic on this one. good luck to you all.

I'm in for R1! I do have a question: Since, I'm taking the GMAT 9/28/11 and the due date for R1 is 10/06/11, do they accept the preliminary score and allow this to be a R1 app. when the official score comes in?

I attended an admissions event held by Stanford recently. A few notes - What they claim a Stanford MBA candidate can expect - 1. a career with impact and a life with meaning 2. insane levels of greatness. never settle 3. personal transformation. not just an MBA factory. Areas of focus 1. Critical analytical thinking - ability to create an argument and defend it. 2. Personal leadership . The slide contained a photo of Gandhi and it said - What would Gandhi do? Talked about the "touchy-feely" class 3. Innovative thinking 4. Collaborative culture. Grade non-disclosure - gives you the freedom to try out different things. 5. People - a. people whose brains scare you b. people whose brains help you. 6. Global understanding A couple of key phrases(cliches?) I noted down 1. Demonstrated leadership potential 2. Someone who has sought out stretch roles
