Uh oh! I'm rethinking my app and realizing I misunderstood the Part time work section. I haven't worked part time or had an internship since college. My assumption was that section was for any post collegiate part time work so I didn't fill it out. But now I think I should have included my summer internships and work study jobs from college. Ugghh, this is what sucks about doing apps at the last minute. Oh well, screw it. My college internships were 10 years ago. It's not like I can remember them anyways.

I lost my undergraduate diploma and transcript and can't get new copies.

I did my undergraduate studies in China. The policy there is that you have to visit the university in person to get new copies. But I can't get a Chinese visa due to my human rights activities.

Do you guys think it a serious problem? I do have my Master's diploma/transcript though.

You only need to submit the official transcript if admitted. At that time can't you request that the schools sends it directly to Stanford?

You may request it, but in person. That's the problem. Things work differently in developing countries.

I explained the situation in an extra essay. I hope they are okay with it. I have no reason to lie - my undergraduate GPA was only 3.5 while my Master's was 3.95.

Submitted 6 minutes to spare.
What is this about b&W transcripts? I submitted color. Is that ok?
Ok just read that the transcript has to be in BW... Fail..

The transcripts I uploaded were in color as well..Damn. Will that count against me? :(

If any school rejects me because I uploaded color transcripts, I don't think I want to go there.

Is stanford very strict about its word limit or is it OK to go 5-10% above like other schools?

Someone in the 2010 forum said he was over by 40 words but still admitted to Stanford.

I was over 80 words and was admitted.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing adrianbr.

Agreed. I can't imagine they would reject you for that. They probably just want to keep the file size down so as to avoide a server overload.

Also, regarding interview invites and admission I would have to agree with doverbeach. Its all speculation at this point, but prob 30% of interviewees get dinged because of nervousness, their character doesn't shine through, they're late, they don't jibe with the interviewer, etc. The rest is prob based on fit and class dynamics (e.g. well all these PE people are amazing, but we can't fill the whole class with them or this guy has a unique perspecitive on the oil and gas industry in russia...etc).

I think my file size increased compared to color, after having to convert round & round  Almost gave up and added a note saying "please view on BW monitor" for the optional info/essay.

Hi guys,

Just one small query. In the education section, I have mentioned a course of mine in which I was awarded a "certificate". The guidelines specifically said that in case one has not got a degree, the field should be left blank. However, when I tried to submit the appl. It wouldn't allow me to since that one degree field was left blank. In the end, per force, I had to add some diploma or something in order to fill the blank. Moreover, since all this happened in the last few minutes, I couldn't even mention this in the addl info section.

Anyone else who had a similar experience? Should I call the ad com? Or since the transcript clearly shows the "certificate", I should let it be?

Thoughts please.

Thanks,
Sam

I don't know much more than you - I submitted my application along with you. But here's what I do know: chill out. Listen, obviously the adcom isn't going to handhold every candidate through the process. For some, making a mistake = the trash heap. But those are the applicants who are headed to the trash anyways. If the adcom wants to admit you on basis of the rest of your application, of course they'll just pick up the phone and call you / email you.

People on this board need to stop stressing over their mistakes - it's done, it's over, and most likely unless you have racist propaganda in your application you'll be fine. My sources? A TON of people that I know admitted to top 5 schools. But feel free not to trust me and stress out - that's your prerogative :)

Cheers.

Dear Rogue,

Thank you for your note. However, I would like to make a couple of points here.

First, there is a difference between making an inadvertant mistake and having no other option but to do what one did. Having said that, I think it is important to let the adcom know the issue - Imagine their surprise when they check the transcript and it does NOT talk about the Diploma? And then ...... they will start thinking!!! And the last thing that u want to make the adcom do, is to make them think because in most cases, it would be negative. It is not that they are negative people as such but having interacted with thousands of applicants, they do come across many mis-informations or wrong claims, so to speak! It is always better to let them know facts.

During my Booth application, I had made the mistake of missing out a couple of data-points in my extra-curriculars. I called them up and the lady who answered my phone, actually made the edits on my application herself! The fact that I did well on my Booth application, only shows that they didn't mind my requesting them to make those changes!

Second, I totally agree with you that one should not stress out and chill-out. But then what part of my post made you think that I was stressed-out? Believe me, I (and most on the forum I am sure) have been in far-far more stressful situations. But then, it is always better to clear one's mind, isn't it? And aren't these forums meant to do precisely that??? Help each other so as to keep ourselves informed???

My main reason for asking this query was to know whether anyone else was in my shoes, especially in rd1, and if so, what action did they take, and if possible, the acom's response!

Once again, thank you for taking the time to reply to my query ..... and yes, I have every reason to trust you and NO reason to NOT do so, right? Although, I am sure that your advice is more suited to those applicants who actually are stressing out!

Take care and best of luck with the application process.

Warm regards,
Sam
