Is it appropriate to contact your interviewer a day or two after the interview to thank them and ask for feedback?
It is appropriate to send a short thank you note after your interview is complete. It is NOT appropriate to ask your interviewer for feedback, especially BEFORE a decision is rendered. It is also not appropriate to try to add additional information for your interviewer that you were unable to discuss during the interview.
A simple "thank you for your time," is sufficient.
Agree with Cheetarah on most points. Everyone, even an interviewer, is happy to get a one-two line Thank u note! So even if they have not given u a business card, I suggest u send them one, especially if they have been matched with their interviewer via an email ID, like in the case of Booth.
Also, a feedback, especially before a decision, will make u come across as immature and as someone who isn't confident about his/her own standing. However, as far as giving some additional info is concerned, while it is not advisable to add new info, u can always address any of the concerns that the interviewer may have had.
In my case, I had thanked my Chicago Booth interviewer for his honesty in highlighting one of his concerns, given his limited knowledge of my unique background. I had then added a couple of data points in my email to alleviate this concern, which I think worked out well in the end.
So, one may like to strengthen his/her point on an issue that they feel they didnt do justice to, and which may lead to a denial. Just my two cents though!
Best,
Sam
