I have an interview on-campus this Friday and am planning to fly in from southern cal on Wednesday night and spend Thursday and Friday at Kellogg. If anyone else is planning to visit during these two days, please pm me. I plan to sit in a class and attend the info session. Any other suggestions on things to do while at Kellogg? Cheers!
Go eat at Prairie Moon. It's amazing! And there's this little spot called Clarkes that serves really good breakfast. Oh and if you can sneak into the Allen Center be sure to check out the cheese bar. We're talking brie, gouda, dill havarti, the works...and served on those toasted baguette crustini things. So delicious! Enjoy!

Does Kellogg do off-campus interviews by phone or have they started skype video interviews too?

I think for the most part they try to do in person interviews. If an alumnus is not available in your area they do employ the skype interviews.

These are all good choices. I would also put a plug in for trying to visit Chicago if you can. It's about a 45 minute el (i.e. subway) ride downtown or 25 minute train ride, and I think Kellogg's proximity to Chicago is an often overlooked selling point. While students likely don't visit the city every weekend, it has a lot to offer and certainly should be part of your Kellogg visit if you have time.

And if you need to grab a quick bite at school, the stir fry at Jacobs is pretty awesome too.

Thanks guys for all the recommendations for places to eat in Evanston. I'm flying back to southern cal on saturday morning and did consider a day trip to Chicago but looks like it is extremely cold this weekend :(

LOL you do know that you're signing up for two years in that cold right? I'm in SoCal too so I know what you mean though.

Haha Yea I made sure I did all my trips before it got to cold. Trying to adjust to the cold I will be seeing by signing up for projects that have me in places it snows this winter....

sorry for the noob question guys, but does Kellogg give decisions on a rolling basis or in one clump around their decision date?

i thought it was rolling basis so the earlier you interview, the sooner you would get a decision, but seems like R1 people got admit/dings all at once during the week of dec 12.

Sorry homie, but the decisions come out in a clump starting a week or two before the decision date. When you interview really has no bearing on when you find out once decisions start being released. For people who interview early in the round it can make for a very long wait.

If you've already interviewed I'd sit back and relax and not even think about it. No need to stress yourself out til mid-late March. At that point feel free to panic in earnest.

Cheetarah,

I just read your blog post(s). Forgive me but my eyes exploded when you said you started with a 1400 word essay for Kellogg!?! I'm glad you got it pared down. Not gonna lie I was freaking about going over by 35 words on one of my essays. I remember consulting every website imaginable to make sure my ish wouldn't get tossed in the trash. Embarrassingly I even called one of my other schools to ask them this... n e ways we should plan on co-authoring a blog posting sometime here in the near future (maybe DAK themed?). And I will be inviting you to social events (since you've decided to emerge from social hermitdom) even though I know you can't make em.

I'm in the same yatch (boats are for those folks on beatthegmat lol). I can't decide which is better for our mental health - interviewing later in the process and then waiting just a few days until the final decisions are rendered or interviewing right now and then being patient for weeks on end before decisions are announced.

I would interview when the time is best for you. The time will have no impact on your decisions so I would focus on making it the best possible.

I agree with rgupta, interview when you feel best prepared. I got mine out of the way early so I didn't get caught up in over thinking it too much.

Senator, you can probably tell from my blog that my writing style is very long winded. I like to provide a detailed setup before diving into the substance of what I'm writing. That's how I approached my 1st draft of Kellogg's first essay. However, I soon realized that Kellogg really did not need to know about every career decision, triumph, mistake, etc. I've made since joining my company in 2002. While it was cathartic to write it all out, it was beyond unnecessary. Ironically, some of the material from that 1st draft wound up finding its way into my final draft.

Oh, for anyone applying R3 please allow me to offer this advice. Do NOT delete or save over your drafts as you revise them. Stuff that you cut one day can often add value to the version you write 3 weeks later. It's difficult to remember that great thing you said in version 1 that didn't work in version 2 but is perfectly tailored for version 5. When you have it saved it's easy as pie to find it and copy/paste. Good luck!

Back to you Senator, I would definitely be down to co-author a blog post with you. Writing one about DAK is a great idea!
