Just completed my first interview today. The interviewer was at a senior level position at an MNC, graduated from INSEAD in '08. Fortunately she knew what I did as she had visited my restaurant a few times (I have recently exited from the business) and said it was one of her favorite restaurants in the area.
She conducted the interview (40 mins) in a very professional yet informal manner - asked the usual "Whys" as I had expected but it was more like a conversation than an high-pressure interview. She didn't take notes, gave several insights into the program and seemed to have a genuine interest in the decisions I have made thus far and my post-MBA goals.
I think the biggest takeaways were:
- Be honest and realistic about your stories, it ll take them a second to see through BS
- Carry a copy of the Resume with you - although I had mailed it to her earlier, she said she didn't get a chance to look at it. It helped to present a copy for her reference right away which was a cue for the "tell me about yourself" question
- Give examples as much as possible - you may have stories to tell but may not get the question prompt. In that case, try to talk about it in a different way, forget about how you visualized tell the story during practice
- She tried to emphasize on the intensity of the course. Try to think of ways which show that you are taking initiative to stay on par already (learning business fundamentals, exit language, etc)
- As much as I was tempted, I didn't ask for feedback. I dont think its a good idea to put them on the spot / also think it shows insecurity
- Sent her a thank you note soon after and told her I will inform her of the final outcome
- BE YOURSELF
That's all I can think of for now. I felt it went well but she didn't give any indication in that regard. Guess will have to just wait and watch.
Good luck guys, hope my 2 cents were of some help.
Cheers,
V
