FROM Sloan Admissions Blog: MBA Round 2 Applicants – Important Update
If you have submitted your MBA application in Round 2, you are probably anxiously awaiting information on what comes next. Great news – we have some important updates for you!

The Admissions Team will begin sending out Round 2 interview invitations Friday, February 14 and will continue periodically through Friday, February 28. If you are not invited for an interview, you will receive a final decision from us by February 28.

The Admissions Team will be conducting R2 interviews here in Cambridge, as well as 15 additional cities across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Specific dates and locations are TBD, but interviewees will receive at least one week’s notice of your interview date. If you are not living in one of the interview locations, you’ll be given the choice to meet us in the closest location to you, or you are always welcome to join us here on campus.

All interviews are conducted by members of the MIT Sloan Admissions Team – not by students or alumni. There are three components to the interview:

  • During the first part, you may be asked follow-up questions on your application. For example, your interviewer might ask you to elaborate on a specific story you tell in an essay, or to describe a job that is mentioned on your resume.
  • In the second part we will ask behavioral questions that will give evidence of certain competencies. Our goal is to really get to know you through your unique stories. An example of the type of question we may ask: “Tell me about a time when you had to build motivation in a colleague?”
  • Finally, the third part of the interview will give you the opportunity to ask us any questions.
Please refer to my previous post for more interview tips.

Best of luck to all applicants!

Are they usually this late?

This is actually exceedingly fast for MIT; they moved all of their dates up significantly this year. Their schedule used to be much worse.

Ditto, they haven't viewed my video either yet.

When I visited Sloan (ambassadors program), the Adcom at lunch mentioned that they spend about 45 minutes reviewing each app. This adcom member starts with the CV and then reviews recs. They also really wanted to see an optional submission as a reflection of a different facet of your personality (not reflected in the essays).

Has everyone's optional material already been seen (those that can check)? Do you think MIT will view everyone's regardless of the rest of their app? Getting a little worried that mine has not yet been looked at and interviews are about to begin!

Hi - Mine still hasn't been viewed. I keep checking, but I am the only one making the stupid counter go up. So you are not alone...

Glad I'm not alone! Just remember - once it hits 301 views it won't go up any further! (Google's way of making sure people don't boost their own video's view count by watching it themselves)

That's wild....A good chunk of R2 applicants will have decisions/scholarship offers by the time Sloan does interviews!

Keep in mind also that in Round 1, Sloan missed their own timeline that it announced and was still extending interview invitations after the last day it announced it would.

Meh, mine was viewed for 4 minutes and 5 seconds, but it was a 4 minute and 40 second video. I'm not one to jump to conclusions, but this kinda bums me out. Hoping for the best!

I recall them asking to keep video submissions under one minute, so I wouldnt take it personally since they still viewed it for longer than 60 seconds. I'm guessing it had the intended effect anyway.

Mine still hasn't been viewed yet. I hope this means that the rest of my app is so good that they don't need to see it ;)
... just kidding, I'm as anxious as anyone else! All the best to those who receive invites on Friday!

Ya know, I've heard different "they recommend x minutes" statements, but I've never seen it from the horse's mouth. Does anyone have a primary source for this? I did a random sample of public Youtube optionals and almost none were less than 2 minutes. Not saying it's never been said, but it would put my mind at ease a little if this time constraint was most likely just the wisdom of the echo chamber.

and as for the intended effect... the last 30 seconds involve my dog, which frankly is my most marketable quality :/ So it looks like they turned it off literally RIGHT BEFORE she made her video essay debut.

As you noted though, I'm sure this just means they decided to invite me right away ;) Though for the record, I am aware that the optional plays very little role, as I believe they grade rubric-style and issue invites based on that.

Hahah, can't watch video at work but I trust you're correct about what it says.

Ahh well, looks like they need to put that info more prominently :) Hope they don't view my video's length unfavorably. I honestly watched 15-20 youtube videos and none were <=1 min
