On September 15, 2013, Miss Nina Davuluri (Miss New York) was crowned Miss America for 2014. The runner up was Crystal Lee (Miss California). Shortly after the announcement, several tweets from people appeared in the twittersphere.
@BrockMay21: "An Asian and an Indian?? I thought this was America!?" Since Miss Nina Davuluri and Miss Crystal Lee are of Indian and Asian descent, respectively, then there must be some mistake with their appearance on the Miss America stage.
Which of the following is an assumption upon which the author's (flawed) argument depends?
(A) Tweeting racist remarks on the internet is offensive and should be banned.
(B) The name of the pageant should be changed from "Miss America" to "Miss Asia."
(C) The other non-Asian and non-Indian contestants were unfairly voted off the show.
(D) It is not possible for an Indian-looking or Asian-looking woman to be an American citzen.
(E) As is true with people of English or French descent, people with Indian and Asian descent can and are prevalent in American society.

I thought this was America!?"(As if a american citizen cant be Afro or indoamerican) Since Miss Nina Davuluri and Miss Crystal Lee are of Indian and Asian descent, respectively, then there must be some mistake with their appearance on the Miss America stage.( I forgot who is the president of America??)
The tweet clearly assumes that the validation of passport is not important, its the color,accent( appearance that is the only deciding factor of one's religion and nationality).
Moreover the tweet clearly assumes that since a citizen can only be american if his forefathers were born there.(Not invaders though).

While this question is clearly a difficult one...(sarcasm)
I will go with D like the poster above me. The tweeter assumes that "American" refers to race, whereas in reality it refers to nationality.
Many times people of presumably the same ilk would call my friend from Cuba "Mexican", this denotes the ignorance that plagues both statements to suggest that appearance = nationality, when the proper term would've related to race i.e. hispanic or latino.
Question...Is this an OG question or Manhattan Prep? (again...sarcasm)
