Had interview yesterday. Thought it went alright. Anyone know how important the interview is for GSB?

Mine is next week. Any advice / most difficult question?

I know its not too specific but just be yourself, and try to relax. Make sure you have good examples of leadership. Thats what they pressed on for me. Good Luck!

The men who take a Stanford Graduate School of Business course on female entrepreneurship do so for the eye-opening exposure to some of the down-and-dirty aspects of starting your own business. Learning about the strategic and business challenges of entrepreneurship is great, but what about the expectations and emotions of starting a business? How does starting a company impact your personal life? What are you willing to give up to get your business off the ground?

While women are still the majority participants in the “Entrepreneurship from the Perspective of Women” course taught by Professor Fern Mandelbaum, that may change as word continues to spread of the “people issues” covered in the course, a recent profile piece in Fast Company reveals.

The idea for the course came ten years ago, when Professor Garth Saloner, currently dean of the Stanford GSB, created a two-week seminar on female entrepreneurship with the simple goal of exposing business students to a multitude of entrepreneurship examples. As of 2015, the class will be offered as a full, quarter course.

Three male students interviewed in the article say they signed up for the course because they wanted to better understand the real-life challenges and decisions that entrepreneurs have to make.

“In a lot of the other classes, you hear the stories of winners … not to say that you didn’t hear it in this class, but the tone of it was more about the trade-offs that you have to make along the way,” says former student Andrew Yaffe. “We had both male and female speakers in the class addressing topics in term of how often they were able to see their children, when they started their company, what was the initial pay they took. I found the male and female perspectives valuable.”

The course name may dissuade male students who assume it’s a class for women, but Professor Mandelbaum hopes that will soon change because the topics are important for future business leaders of either gender in order to create inclusive work environments.

Men may not think business school is the place to learn some of the personal aspects covered in the class, but, says past participant Johnson Ci Yu Fung, “What better way to generate innovation than to see it from a perspective that the other half of the population experiences?”

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for round 3 compared to rounds 1 and 2? I'm debating whether applying round 3 is worth it.

I don't know the exact numbers, but apparently the acceptance rate for round 3 is considerably lower than it is for the other rounds.

IMHO, it's better if you do R1 (it's like in ~7 months). Perfect time for putting together a good application, instead of rushing a R3 (when there are barely any available seats left)

Agreed.

I went to an info session at Stanford last month (after the Round 2 deadline, but before Round 3) and that specific question was asked to adcom. It seemed like it is worth it to try R3, or at the very least it can't hurt (except for the $260). She said re-applicants are read completely new, they do not look at the old file or any information and it is treated like a completely new applicant. So you could apply Round 3 and if it doesn't work apply again Round 1. Of course I think it depends on your test scores, grades, and story, but if they are high (above the average for the admitted class), I don't think it's a bad idea.

Every year people do get in from Round 3, although I know the number of applications is very low. I think people get highly discouraged from applying Round 3 because everyone says it is impossible. If your materials are ready and very good, I say give it a shot.

The adcom representative made it very clear that having applied once before and having been rejected does not hurt your chances whatsoever and does not reflect negatively at all. (I was surprised by this response so that's why I remember it.)

If you are ready and want to start school in August, I say go for it, it can't hurt. And then you can always apply again Round 1 and maybe you will have learned something from your experience of applying Round 3.

Mine says "Interview Completed". I also got an email with the subject "Interview Complete". Mine was sent the same day as my interview but I think it only gets sent after your interviewer submits their report (just my guess!)

I was told that it is supposed to be 45 min to 1 hour but my interview was close to 2 hours. I think we both lost track of time and by the time I walked out of the room, I realized that almost two hours had gone by.

Hey! Mine was a little over 90 minutes. Was the end of the day and we lost track of time having a good conversation. Hope yours went/goes well!
