I had my interview today at GSB admissions office. Two people on the interview panel. Took a little less than an hour. Both were very pleasant and friendly. Took meticulous notes. I think I did ok. I could have done it better though. They gave me absolutely no hints on how I did. However, they said that interview is only one of the components and interview performance is by no means a predictor of final admission chances. They said it twice. I was surprised to see that the main interviewer has incredible knowledge about specific courses offered by other departments, which are popular among gsb students. They asked me for another recommendation letter. Is this a good/bad sign -- Anyone know? Well, all the best to all interview candidates.

I've never heard of them asking for an additional recommendation letter before. Are you sure you had two recommendations sent in? Or, is it possible that one of them is written poorly (poor English, poor grammar, etc.)?

Hi Jdharris, I am just as surprised as you. So I asked em whether there was any specific reason they needed a third one. She said the submitted recos are not recent enough. I am self-employed. She suggested that it doesn't have to be from a supervisor but anyone associated with me right now. So we ll see. BTW, after I saw your email, I did some research (checking with my friends and acquaintances who are gsb grads). Apparently, it is _not_ uncommon for them to ask for additional recommendations or some other info in certain cases.

Does the wording in "interview complete" email bother any of you? They use "congratulations", "celebrate", "making it through", etc. For a second, I thought I got in. It is a little cruel if you ask me..

My friend told me this: "waiting after your interview is like waiting in line for a buffet, you can see the food, but there is a long line in front of you. Sure there might be a chance that by the time you get to the food it will be gone, but think of the people who can't even find parking to wait in line"

For the R2 candidates who interviewed, good luck, we will get there soon enough :)

szybe, I hope to see you in 40 days at the Admit Weekend!

Actually, I don't think that admit weekend is specifically for the GSB. Does anyone know when the R2 admit weekend will be?

I don't think they announced admit weekend for R2 yet! Anyway, thank you for sprinkling positive vibes.

I have a question. How does MSx program compare with MBA program? Yesterday, I got an email from MSx program director inviting me to apply by completing a third essay. I checked the MSx box in my application I guess as a backup option. I have a week to do this.

My stance is that, I'd only want MSx if I cant get into MBA. But if I apply to MSx in R2, I am afraid they will de-prioritize me for MBA.

Any advice? Thank you.

Can you give us a snapshot of your background? I think having that info (primarily work experience) will be helpful.

hmm, I think the MSx program does sound like a better fit given your extensive management experience?? Either way, good luck!

MSx actually sounds like a good fit for you. Are there any particular reasons for why you would rather do the MBA program?

Thanks for your feedback. I want to do MBA because I wanna be an entrepreneur but at a different scale. First, MBA allows me to try out an idea during summer and get back to school, share it with my classmates and faculty to further refine it. I see it very valuable. Second, MSx trains more in executive management (how can you be a better CXO) while MBA trains you to be a better entrepreneur. At least that's what I think.

Yes. My interview complete email was signed by one of my interviewers. So I replied to it by sending a note of thanks and later heard back from her.
