I started my application and found no volunteer/extracurricular section. Where did you guys explain that part? It is probably the most importance piece of my application so I definitely want to add it in there.

I worked them into my essays and resume. The application forces you to get creative in that regard.

I used the optional part to write an essay about it and also mentioned a little bit on my resume.

I believe in the past Sloan has interviewed roughly 20% of applicants, but I heard from an admissions rep that this year they are interviewing a greater proportion of applicants. Can anyone confirm this new policy or offer any more information?

If you heard it from someone in adcom, then I would believe it. Either way, I don't see how it matters too much... you should always be showing your best in the interview regardless of how selective they are in inviting applicants to interview.

Adcoms said that they're interviewing 30% of R1 applicants and plan to accept 50%-60%, this translates to an overall acceptance rate of 15%-18%. If they interviewed only 20% of R1 applicants, they would have to accept 75%-90% of the interviewed applicants to achieve the same overall rate of 15%-18%. 75%-90% is way too high imo and 50%-60% sounds very reasonable. I have heard that other schools such as Wharton accept less (~40%) of the interviewed applicants so 50%-60% is still high compared with other b-schools acceptance rates.

This post has been very informative! neo656 Thank you so much for such a helpful act.

I am in the process of studying for the GMAT (Will not apply for the class of 2015), hopefully I'll get the score I need to apply next year. I like to plan everything from the early beginning so I'll give myself time to prepare well enough and accumulate around 3 years of experience in my field.

As for the ones applying this year, I wish you the very best of luck! :)

Thanks for the wishes Ahmad. :)
I'm sure several of those who make it to Class of 2017 would love to help you when you begin your preparation for Sloan next year.
All the best for GMAT.

Thanks, Masoy, for the info. Where are you getting the 15-18% R1 admissions rate?

30% x 50% = 15%
30% x 60% = 18%

30% is the rate of applicants invited to interview. 50%-60% is the rate of acceptance for the interviewed applicants

Ah, I missed that you were taking 30% interviewed and 50-60% of those interviews accepted as values given by the adcom.

FROM Sloan Admissions Blog: Breaking the Mold: The Women of MIT Sloan
On October 27th, Our Admissions Office cohosted Women’s Ambassador Day with the Sloan Women in Management (SWIM) Club as part of their Breaking the Mold Initiative. The initiative was launched by SWIM to discuss the challenges and opportunities for women in business. One of our student bloggers attended several of the Breaking the Mold events on campus. As she explains, these events are “about uncovering implicit biases. I’ll describe it in one word: amazing. No, illuminating.” Read about the rest of her experiences here.

Women’s Ambassador Day and the Breaking the Mold Initiative reflect MIT Sloan’s commitment to and engagement with our female students, whose experiences and perspectives strengthen our diverse community. For those who are interested in Breaking the Mold, please consider attending the flagship conference in February. And if you’d like to learn more about our culture and community at MIT Sloan, I hope you will come visit us!

This sounds about right.
GMATClub interview % seems to be 1/3 of the total applicant interview %.

Like right now we are at 11% vs. 30% on a broad group basis.
I think the same can be said for HBS and other schools.

Out of curiosity, why do you think GMAT club has a lower interview rate than the population? I would actually expect it to be higher. Hypothesis: people who join and contribute to GC are pursuing an MBA in earnest, and thus represent a more attractive sample of the broader population. I guess you could propose the opposite and make the case that active contributors to GC are skewed toward the long-shots.

It could also be user attrition throughout the process, and that a lot of people who initially register their profile do not update it to reflect interview invites (I am guilty of this). I've always wondered why GC interview rates are so low.

I would guess majority of applicants on this site are Indian. Their pool is unfortunately the most competitive so they have a much lower acceptance rate naturally, even though in almost every school thread GMAT Club has a higher GMAT average than the school.

Interesting. I had no idea that the majority of this site is Indian.
