You risk looking like a recluse if you are there in person and don't. MBA programs are all about networking.

I just heard that if you have someone "special" in a team that someone can screw up everyone...personally that's the biggest risk I see here: the last thing I want is to have some other candidate to screw up my candidacy. For an extreme example, some dude can write all those amazing stuff about himself in his application, and show up as a total jerk/bum that day. What do you do if you're in the same team with him?

They aren't looking for jerks - just collaborative types The students I spoke with mentioned there was a "rank 1, ultra macho, I run this" type in their group event.. they were the students sharing the story, he didn't get in. They said it's a "problem test" for the 0 social skill and "the world revolves around me" types which sour the student body at a school.

If someone is extremely un-collaborative on your team, maybe it's a good exercise for you to show off your collaboration skills.

FWIW, I bombed by team exercise in R1 and still got in (and I'm an ORM, with a low gpa and all!). There was one guy on my team who totally commandeered the whole thing (don't know if this was looked down upon or he was regarded as a "leader"). But in my exercise I barely said maybe 20 words.
