Hi Mike, Congratulations on the amazing score! I am Rohan from India and I am taking the exam on the 3rd of December. I recently took the exam in september and score a low 640. I was devastated but decided to give it again. 760 is my aim and when I read your post I thought I must message you. I have done the OG inside out, will do the book once again; my main concern is quant. The level of quant in the OG I feel is not upto the mark of the questions that come in the exam, or atleast upto the questions that came in my exam, hence I wanted to know if you did something besides the OG for practicing quant. Also, since english is not my native language, would you suggest I use the MGMAT SC book as it has very technical terms used. Thanks a lot for the help and I hope you achieve whatever you set out for :)

Congrats! Amazing! Unfortunately I'm not at your level, but I will follow some of your tips to reach at least my 700 target! I will have to buy Manhattan books! Thank you

Hi rohansangari,

Thanks, I hope that you can achieve what you set out to do also!

1. Quant: In my experience the questions near the end of the OG13 should be sufficient to tackle the harder problems of the GMAT. The trick is to be able to do them under timed pressure and be able to spot the method really easily. So I suggest doing a significant portion every time you practice under timed conditions to hone your skills in working under pressure. If you do want to practice on harder questions, MGMAT CAT tests include a lot more of the higher-level difficulty, harder than the ones that GMAT with throw at you.

2. SC: The MGMAT SC is useful even if you don't understand all of the terms. The way to read it is to spot the patterns and the flow, they do a really good job of teaching you how to spot mistakes and how to correct them. I disregarded a lot of the technical terminology and focused on what I needed. The free flashcards that I mentioned also helps refreshing the concepts and the patterns that you should spot.

3. To reiterate, doing mocks under fully timed scenarios do help a lot!!!!

Hope this helps,

Michael

Congrats)) You did not provide your raw scores. However, the debrief was very interesting. Can you elaborate more on SC section? Especially can you compare the difficulty level of SC section in real exam with that of manhattan cats and gmat prep cats? I make one mistake in SC in manhattan( V40), but make 4 mistakes in my practice gmatprep cats. The SC section of the gmat prep practice cats test kinda ambiguous topics.

Hi Ergenekon,

Thanks man.

1. The scoring algorithm for the GMAT is not replicated by the unofficial mock test providers so I would not be too concerned with how one mistake on that is assessed as opposed to on the real GMAT.

2. To be honest, I thought that the GMATPrep tests' SC questions were less ambiguous then the ones in MGMAT in that if you can spot the errors, then there's only one correct answer as opposed to ambiguous answers. My tip would be to be able to spot several errors instead of just one as it helps you narrow down the choices.

Hope this helps!

Michael
