split #1 when travelling Vs when they travel - you need when travelling to be parallel with 'when travelling eastward'.
C also has ' Because ..., so ...' construction
E has- so most people, as a result , who experience..when...- second part is missing a verb, also has a misplaced modifier.
A has a parallelism error - adapts more readily to lengthened days than shortening them , out!

Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortening them is why most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling westward than when traveling eastward.

Shortening them means shortening lengthened days. This is illogical. We are comparing two kind of days lengthened days and shortened days.

(A) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortening them is why most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling
Pronoun them is referring illogically to lengthened days. Further shortening days would imply that days are shortening something which is again illogical.
(B) The body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortened days, with the result that most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling
"body adapting more readily to lengthened days than to shortened days" is "why most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling..." Here it implies that adaptation resulted in "people experiencing less severe “jet lag” when traveling...". This is illogical meaning.

(C) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortened ones, so most people experience “jet lag” less severely when they travel
This looks correct.
(D) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthening days than to shortening them, most people experience less severe “jet lag” when they travel
lengthening and shortening are not correct adjectives. days are themselves not lengthening or shortening somethings. They are "shortened" or "lengthened". Further travel westward is not parallel to travelling eastward.
(E) The body adapts more readily to lengthening days than to shortening them, so most people, as a result, who experience “jet lag” less severely when traveling
Lengthening and shortening are wrong adjectives. This is not even a sentence. after so we should have an independent clause but here the verb is missing after subject most people.

I think the question used || ism twice. Once for the lengthened days and shortened days and once for traveling westward and when traveling eastward. 2-3 split so only option has both ||ism.

There is a meaning issue in A,B and D. "experience less sever jet lag" doesnt make sense. But "experience jet lag less severly " does. Because jet lag is same for all passenger.
Between C &E. E is flawed because "shortening them" is not correct.
C is the only answer that makes sense.

Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortening them is why most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling westward than when traveling eastward.

lengthened days is a noun where shortening them is in verb form and these two are not parallel in comparative form more than

(B) The body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortened days, with the result that most people experience less severe “jet lag” when traveling

Although with structure appears a bit awkward, this sentence introduces no new errors and is correct.

(C) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortened ones, so most people experience “jet lag” less severely when they travel

Because and so indicate same purpose and are redundant in usage.
they travel is not parallel to traveling eastward.

(D) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthening days than to shortening them, most people experience less severe “jet lag” when they travel

days are lengthening is not preferred. other error repeats as in C.

(E) The body adapts more readily to lengthening days than to shortening them, so most people, as a result, who experience “jet lag” less severely when traveling

so and as a result make the sentence redundant here.
Lengthening is same as in D.

Parallelism; Incorrect comparison
2/3 split-
1. ‘travelling westward’ should be parallel to ‘travelling eastward’ NOT ‘travel eastward’
2. Lengthening days than shortening ‘them’ – Meaning is awkward

Parallelism error.

2 Splits
1. the non underlined part ends with when they travel eastwards. therefore correct sentence should have when they travel westward.
2. the sentence talks about Length of the day - Long Days - Short days therefore should have lengthened day and shortened day

Day 3 Question of the Verbal Contest: GMAT Club RATT Race

Intended meaning : The body adapts more readily to lengthened days than shortened days. As a result of this , most people experience "jet lag" when traveling westward than when traveling eastward.

Error in the original choice : comparison error lengthened days need to be compared to shortened days and not to shortening of days.

Option a,d,e get eliminated on the basis of error mentioned above

Option c is wrong because of "so". You already have because, you don't need so after comma

Hi Nevernevergiveup

Because and so indicate same purpose and are redundant in usage - agreed

(C) Because the body adapts more readily to lengthened days than to shortened ones, so most people experience “jet lag” less severely when they travel
(considering so is not here, will the choice be correct?)
