Anyone applying with GRE?

Question

Can you please share your score, Q/V split, and (if you've applied) the outcome? I'm trying to get a better understanding of what i should be targeting.

Yes, I applied with GRE and was admitted last cycle. Q: 170 V:162.

Applied using GRE for Rd 1 this year.

I think a 162+ for Verbal and 165+ for Quantitative is what you should target (both 90th percentile). That would roughly equate to a 710 GMAT according to the ETS conversion tool.

I received my acceptance call from Booth today. My GRE is on the lower side 319 (162Q 158V). Hope this helps provide another data point to for those applying with GRE instead of GMAT.

Can you please compare Quantitative between GRE and GMAT?

The quantitative portion of the GMAT covers a broader set of mathematical topics and offers more complicated problems than the GRE. Additionally, in the GRE you can use a calculator--not so for the GMAT.

However, because those who take the GMAT (namely, business school students) score higher than those who take the GRE (general graduate school students), it is more to get a high percentile math score on the GMAT than on the GRE.

For example, a scaled GMAT quantitative score of 51 (i.e. no wrong answers) puts you in the  97th percentile  and a score of 50 (only one wrong) puts you in the 87th percentile. On the GRE, a perfect quantitative score or one off would both put you in the  97th percentile .

I see you were admitted (huge congrats!) so this is for anyone else who stumbles upon your thread. I applied with the GRE in the 2015 cycle with a  170 Q / 170 V / 5.5 AW . Once you reach a certain point, a higher score doesn't increase your odds of admission, but it does help with scholarships. Booth was  incredibly  generous with the aid package they offered me and I think my score had a big thing to do with it.

One more interesting distinction between the GMAT and GRE. Adcoms are generally more lenient with low GRE scores since the average GRE score is not as closely tracked. The math is a little harder on the GMAT but challenge is that the GRE verbal is much harder. So if you're going to score low, try the GRE and brush up on your vocabulary!
