An entry level question from MGMAT that simply establishes the correct usage of the idiom 'so x that '. D is the correct answer.

Because the usage 'to such a degree as to ' is unidiomatic; one can accept "so x as to" as legitimate but not the idiom as it is in A.

The comma appears to be a typo. So, even though, technically, version (D) is not correct because it ends with a comma rather than with a period, people are ignoring the comma and considering (D) correct.

Agree with that assessment, even though the comma threw me off at first, I ended up choosing option D anyhow.
