hello guys, I have recently finished my GMAT and have booked a date for IELTS on November 25th(less than 3 weeks).

I have not started any preparation and was wondering whether the time is enough to prepare.
I want at least a 7.5 with a minimum of 7 in all sections.

Where do I start my prep?

I gave a listening mock and got 38/40.
I think reading will be easier compared to GMAT RC(right?).
Writing and Speaking I don't know where I stand.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey Carcass, thank you.
But isn't TOEFL and IELTS quite different, can I use the resources meant for TOEFL for IELTS

Not really.

Writing pretty much the same.

Speaking instead to talk to a microphone you do talk with a person, for real.

Listening is a bit different: TOEFL academic environment most part, IELT (if general) in common environment such as a shop (academic version) is similar.

Reading pretty much the same.

The IELTS is challenging, even for those who are very proficient in English. In the next four weeks you should engage with English as much as possible.Go out of your way to find opportunities to speak, write, listen, and read in English. You can learn a lot in a month, especially new vocabulary

IELTS has nothing to do with Gmat sections as you guess its better to practise IELTS material only, this will help you get in the mood of the test better. Also a good strategy would be to test yourself on past official tests and your actual score will be near the average of that tests . Good luck!!!

Actually, it depends on person to person. Starting with the IELTS preparation, give an hour to each module. Practice each and every module in the given time frame. Look out for your mistakes and try not to repeat them, even if you have to listen to that recording once more or you have to read that passage again. Just try not to repeat them. Always try to do the test in the given time limit. Once 60 minutes are over, stop your Reading section and check your answers. After scoring yourself, then solve the remaining questions. Hope you get my point. Same goes with the Listening section.

Take a full Speaking exam and record your voice for the first few days. After completing with the exam, listen to your recording. Judge and score it. You should not be repeating words and saying ‘hmmm…’, ‘mmm’ and these types of voices. If you think, your voice is not coming out proper and clear, read aloud something in English EVERYDAY for 30 minutes till your day of exam. This will really help you.

Coming to Writing, it comes with practice. Learn some words, phrases and idioms everyday and try to use them in your writing. Read some good quality articles from magazines, newspapers everyday. Find someone who will be ready to score your writing tasks everyday.

If after doing the full practice tests for few days, you think I’m weak in a particular section, double the time for that particular section and try to improve in that.
