I am planning on becoming a professor after I finish my PhD and from talking to professors, they do make a pretty nice chunk of change. I was also told that Universities will give you a lot more if you do a bunch of research on the side. I don't really care, I just want to be able to teach, but if what you want to do makes a lot of money there's no shame in that!

An interesting note that the AACSB paper does not really cover is the shortage by discipline. It is well known and there are some additional papers that we could post from the American Accounting Association stating that accounting phds are in real short supply. So while there is a shortage in business phds, I would argue that finance and especially accounting tax/audit areas are being hit really hard.
I live in India, and from my experience, out here you cannot afford to do anything for the love of it - if you are not ready to take a really "substantial" risk in terms of the life you expect. There so little in teaching that promotes real education (as againt knowing the facts). Actually, very few in engineering know what is what (understanding concepts - entropy I know many dont know and why it has to increase). All you have to do is get the answers right in an exam. Thats not a simple task, its very hard, the questions are really confusing for their mathematical complexity, but that is not pursuit of knowledge either
