Guys i would do a PHD more for love of it than for money.
Exactly. People in the US/west evaluate everything with money but in the east (basically in South Asia) the same is not the case. People in the east value the degree with knowledge and education.

I live in India, and from my experience, out here you cannot afford to do anything for the love of it - if you are not ready to take a really "substantial" risk in terms of the life you expect. There so little in teaching that promotes real education (as againt knowing the facts). Actually, very few in engineering know what is what (understanding concepts - entropy I know many dont know and why it has to increase). All you have to do is get the answers right in an exam. Thats not a simple task, its very hard, the questions are really confusing for their mathematical complexity, but that is not pursuit of knowledge either
