Today, I read Manhattan GRE RC book in which I found the below list that shows the relationship between the signal words and the author and/ or the passage.
1) FOCUS ATTENTION = As for ; In reference to
2) ADD TO PREVIOUS POINT = Furthermore ; Moreover; In addition; Also; As well as ; Likewise; Too
3) PROVIDE CONTRAST= On one hand ; On the other hand; While; Alternatively; Rather; Instead; In contrast ( such as, in stark contrast to these images ….)
4)PROVIDE CONCEDING CONTRAST ( author unwillingly agree)=Granted; It’s time that; Certainly; Admittedly ; Despite; Although
5) PROVIDE EMPATHETIC CONTRAST ( author asserts own position) =But; However; Even so; All the same; That said; Nevertheless; Yet; Otherwise; Despite

Yes, these transition phrases are important to focus on when reading -- but simply knowing them or memorizing them won't get you to where you need to be.
Most people taking the GMAT have seen the majority of phrases in this list and have at least a general understanding of what they mean or signify.
The tricky part is making sense of them in context and surrounding structure.This can be particularly difficult when going through really boring/dry passages.
So in addition to being aware of these transition words, here's a brain hack for RC/CR that might help take you to the next level:
Force yourself to be SUPER EXCITED about a really BORING CR/RC passage.
That's right -- your level of excitement actually affects your brain's ability to remember!
Just think back to all the memorable moments in your life -- a nervous first date, graduation, driving for the first time, getting your first job, etc..
These are all memorable because of emotions.
Now apply emotional spikes
to your GMAT studying! If you have no emotion when you study, then you will not remember anything by the time you finish the next few sentences!
So do yourself a favor and force yourself to get excited -- yes, this is actually a skill in and of itself.
Get EXTREMELY super excited -- keep asking yourself what the HECK is this author trying to say? OK, so what's the point of this next sentence?
What in the world did you just say?
All these questions will force your mind to be super excited -- and as a result, you will actually remember because you were reading with a specific PURPOSE and INTENT.
So in summary, force yourself to be super excited about boring passages -- and this will help improve your reading comprehension.
