I have also enrolled to Veritas CATs and so far written 4 tests, difficulty in verbal is a bit high according to me as well as some other folks. But would always prefer official GMAT tests as benchmark for my preparation. other companies' mocks are good for practice.

So my 2 cents. Official GMAT Prep tests for final call(with some variance).

Tanichi - A 60-80 points discrepancy between GMAT Prep and Veritas practice tests is highly unlikely. Did you get a 760 on your first attempt or on retake? Sometime retaking GMAT Prep practice tests surges the score. Veritas Prep has perfected its scoring algorithm over the years and now the scoring is almost perfect. That said, typically, test tests score higher on GMAT Prep than on Vertias Prep because such test-takers are well versed with the pattern of official questions by practicing official guide and GMAT Prep question banks.

I disagree.

I noticed a similar thing in my scoring when I used Veritas tests. Veritas throws significantly more 'very hard' 700 level problems in the verbal section irrespective of how well you are performing. I actually noticed that Question 3 and 4 are almost ALWAYS 700-800 level in difficulty, leading me to conclude that they use some sort of template for scoring.

Although I've only conducted a desktop research on similar experiences, I'm lead to believe that many lower to mid 700 scorers actually score significantly lower on Veritas than they do on the real thing, so, as the saying goes, take the test score with "a grain of salt" and only as a indication of your weak points.

Here are some similar user experiences:
1. https://gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-manh ... 30763.html
2. https://gmatclub.com/forum/740-q50-v40- ... l#p1561103 --> in Harley's Error log you will see that he scored just a 650 before his Official in which he scored a 740
3. https://www.reddit.com/r/GMAT/comments/ ... ur_scores/ -->There is a user here in your position.

Tanichi let me know how you go with your tests! I'm sitting mine this Fri. I ended up pulling a 680 on the last Veritas test... gave me great relief as I hit 650 constantly across Tests 1-5, then on test 6 I hit 680 lol...

I'm the exact same, I'm a bit weary about taking tests 4 days before the actual thing lol... Its also the trade off of mental energy. Without failure every time I do a practice test I always lose about 1.5 days to review and analysis etc.

That's true...so I'm thinking I'll take a couple of days to go through all the mock tests I've done so far..since I've already revised them once..I should now be able to solve the questions properly and be sure to not repeat the same mistakes...
Also ideally it should take less time

I feel it'll be a good revision..instead of fretting over the score..we can focus on the prep. (While we still can) :tongue_opt1

I gave another Veritas test today and got a 750. While that's very encouraging, i'm not sure how with a 53% accuracy i could get a Q50??
Even my verbal accuracy was only 63%..i got 11 questions wrong, still i was able to score a V43.

Is that how the actual GMAT algo works?

Tanichi I've been using the Veritas prep tests as well and noticed a similar issue! Curious to know how much you scored on the actual test and if Veritas prep tests helped in any way. I'm going to be taking the actual GMAT soon.

In the past 2 weeks, I took 2 official mocks and 3 Veritas tests. While I scored 760+ in both the official mocks, my scores in the Veritas tests ranged 700-710. Given there's a 60+ point difference in these scores, I am not sure what my actual level is. Did someone else face this too?

Every practice test will give you an estimate only, though we pride ourselves in giving great estimates! :)
Our intent is to make our practice tests exactly like the actual test - neither harder nor easier - and we have succeeded to a great degree in doing that.

There is a genuine reason why many net savvy students score better in official practice tests - most test prep companies frame multiple practice questions on the constructs of questions from official practice tests (with good reason, of course!). Hence, even when we stay away from official practice test questions, we come across similar practice questions during our prep. That makes the questions of the official tests familiar to us and hence, inflates our score. When you take a Veritas test, you come across unfamiliar questions (the way you will on the actual GMAT) and hence your score dips a bit.

By the way, give it a break now and focus on evaluating your responses on the 5 tests you took. Identify your weaknesses and plug them. That will improve whatever your current level is!

I'm in a similar boat as you guys and scoring around 700 on veritas. My retest is almost in 2 weeks. Curious to know how did you score in the final exam and see if I should continue with the veritas tests or not. Mainly, how did your verbal score vary between the official gmat and veritas? TIA
