Hi All, I wanted to know the role of interview in the final admission decision. Once the applicant is invited for interview, is it just the interview that decides admission/rejection, OR even after the interview, the score of interview is combined with scores of other application materials to arrive at the decision. In case it's the latter, I believe the interview would have a large weightage? I understand precise information wouldn't be public, but any insight would be helpful. Thank you.
Based on my interactions with multiple people including those currently and formerly part of the admissions team, there's no set formula. Gaining an interview means they definitely like your profile. The interview is used to confirm whether what you wrote in your essays is really who you are, your likability and fit for the program.
Post interview, all of these are combined together to reach the final decision. Bear in mind you've already done well on other factors to qualify for an interview so one may assume it to be a deciding factor. But I would say with little hesitation that interview will form a significant portion of your final decision.
Would love to hear thoughts of others especially Manan and the moderators.
many of my friends with high GMAT score of around 740, from iits and from top tier company got rejected after the interview so I think that after you get an interview call, the interview becomes the deciding factor for isb
