Hi, I gave my first attempt on GMAT on 25th May with the Online Enhanced GMAT version. Wanted to share my experience and seek help from forum experts on few of my observations:
Background: I had booked my in center GMAT exam for 20th May. It got cancelled at the last moment hence I had to reschedule for online version. Since appointments were not available, I had to delay my exam with 5 days.
In total, before the exam, I had given 3 Official Mocks and had scored 750 (V40, Q51) , 760 (V40, Q51) and 720 (V35, Q51). I was expecting a 740-750 in my GMAT exam but that didnt happen and I landed with a 720. Following was my experience with the exam:
1) Check-in process and Proctor monitoring was super smooth and didnt give me any problem at all. Whole test went smooth with a 100mbps wired connection. More on this: My Speed test from Examity always failed before the test but Examity's customer support checked my speed and confirmed that I should simply ignore that error. Looks like a glitch at their end. So if anyone else also faces the same issue, I suggest talking to customer care before writing off GMAT Online.
2) I started from Verbal and felt that the difficulty level of questions was way way harder than official Mocks or OG questions. I had solved GMAT advanced also and I found the RC passages were way dense than even those in GMAT advanced.
3) I used to get good accuracy in RC in my Mocks but real GMAT RCs completely derailed me, in my second RC I wasted 11 minutes and I am sure my accuracy would also be poor in that. Even subsequent RCs were super dense and technical, even though they were much shorter in length. I ended up short of time in the end and had to guess last 5 questions in a row.
4) Similar to Verbal, Quant was also way way harder than official Mocks and OG questions. I got Q51 in all 3 official Mocks and I used to finish my Quant with 10 minutes to spare. In the actual GMAT exam I ran out of time and had to guess at least 5 questions in the last 15.
5) To be honest, I wasnt even expecting a V38 and a Q50 looking at the way my exam went. But looks like the exam was harder on the level of questions and linent on score scale.
Before attempting GMAT, I read in multiple forums that GMAT Prep difficulty level matches with the original test however that wasnt true in my case. I am pretty sure that RCs were way tougher. Would be great if experts can share their experience with other students. Is even GMAT Test Center exam much harder than the GMAT Prep exam or is it the case with the latest online version?
I am thinking of taking a reattempt in next 15-20 days.
