Waiting is really the most difficult part during the application process. I am checking my email box many many time everyday! There are so few people who got feedback for R2. There are still so many days to wait.... Sigh...

I am currently taking the 17 week HBS CORe and I am on week 6 of the course. I have done really well on the quizzes so far. I am wondering should I reach out to the admissions department with an update on my progress in the course to try to increase my chances of an acceptance or will this be perceived negatively?

I think you should wait for the decision. If the decision is on the negative, you can leverage this

How can the student leverage this in case they get denied? The decisions are final.
They can only leverage this if they are WL.

I'm a prospective candidate just like you, not a professional consultant.
That being said if I were you, I would write them an update email about this and some other recent achievements (if any) and specify them of my current progress so they can consider that as well while making admit decisions. Since your 17 weeks will get over much later, it might be okay to inform them now that the decisions are to be released soon.

I'd agree with sorad on this.
Include the HBX Core as part of a larger update about your profile. This would show both your willingness to be on the waitlist and the fact that you are working on your profile to increase your chances. Waiting for the course to finish may be too late

Have any of the waitlisted candidates received any news regarding the final decision? Accept or reject.
Any idea by when international applicants can expect to hear back regarding the same?

From my conversation with the Adcom, waitlist decisions can be made as late as mid summer. All you can do is wait which I understand is extremely frustrating because I am on the same boat.
