In the non-underlining part Demanded is there which reflects the subjunctive mood of the verb.

Structure of the subjunctive sentence=

Trigger word (demand/request/recommended word) + that + subject + Subjunctive

From this, we can eliminate C, D, and E, since they use 'Should' instead of the subjunctive.

Between A & B, B has parallelism issues.

A. allocate funds for early-screening programs in preschools, support a bill for reform of teachers' salaries, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in families of at-risk children.............Looks fine

B. allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in the families of at-risk children...................Not parallel

C. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and sponsor research to investigate early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families.................Violation of subjunctive verb rule + parallelism issue

D. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and research on early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families be supported................Violation of subjunctive verb rule + parallelism issue

E. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, support a bill for reform of teachers' salaries, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families.............................Violation of subjunctive verb rule

Verb "Demand" requires subjunctive construction

A. All good

B. Verb phrase and clause create parallelism issue

C. Use of should in subjunctive construction is wrong, + same Parallelism issue as in B

D. Use of should in subjunctive construction is wrong, + same Parallelism issue as in B

E. Use of should in subjunctive construction is wrong

The answer is A as it does not have any problems.

Pre-thinking error: Subjunctive form uses the plural verb. Eliminate C,D, & E.

B is wrong as no parallelism maintained.

with the use of word demanded in the non underline part the use of should is wrong eliminate option C,D,E
Between A & B
option B is wrong as it uses should in the sentence again and leads to meaning error
option A is correct

To combat the decline in scholastic performance of young boys in inner-city schools, the education council demanded that the city allocate funds for early-screening programs in preschools, support a bill for reform of teachers' salaries, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in families of at-risk children.

The command subjunctive- “demanded that” must use a verb in its base form.

Eliminate options C, D, and E as they use “ should allocate” and not “allocate”

Option B- All that council demanded must follow the rule of Command subjunctive- allocate, support and sponsor.
Option B breaks parallelism and does not follow the rule of Command subjunctive. Eliminate B.

Option A is correct.

IMO A

A. allocate funds for early-screening programs in preschools, support a bill for reform of teachers' salaries, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in families of at-risk children

B. allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in the families of at-risk children

C. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and sponsor research to investigate early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families

D. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, a bill for reform of teachers' salaries should be supported, and research on early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families be supported

E. should allocate funds for early-screening programs in pre-schools, support a bill for reform of teachers' salaries, and sponsor research on early childhood parenting practices in at-risk children's families

Reasoning
1. Can eliminate C, D and E because "should" should not follow "demanded that"- we can simply continue with the base form of the verb.
2. B has parallelism issue- "allocate funds" and "a bill for reform" are not parallel.

A fairly easy one.

Lets look at the differences:
1. Allocate vs should allocate
2. Support a bill vs bill should be supported
3. Similar thing on sponsor research

The game changer here is really the parallelism. The three clauses are parallel to each other and if first has a sensible verb, then each of the remaining 2 should also have similar

Only option A has this
