I believe that this entire fiasco is caused by the insistence of some members in the AdCom who wanted to conduct face-to-face interviews and also needed time to "properly study and understand" the essays and LORs of candidates before shortlisting them.
P.S1: This is my theory based on the live sessions of the AdCom. No proofs. So, don't jump on me.
P.S2: Saw an old AdCom video in which the guy clearly says that they put interviewed candidates into 3 baskets.
1-Immediately offered admission within a week
2-Immediately rejected but informed at a later date after that Round
3-Waitlisted - fate depends on other candidates
The current AdCom doesn't want to follow this. They want to look at all candidates in that Round before rolling out admissions. So, be prepared to wait a long time this year. 1st results will be rolled out only in Nov 1st week. Prepare for other interviews if you have any.
