It is in fact illegal to make use of prison labor from foreign countries that have poor human rights records. However, if our company does not do so, others will.

Which of the following is most like the argument above in its logical structure?

A) Negotiating with striking workers does, in fact, go against the company’s policies. However, the company must negotiate in some cases, if it wants to prevent major losses.
B) Hunting deer in this forest is indeed illegal. However, if the defendant had not hunted these deer someone else certainly would have done so.
C) It is true that military officers are forbidden to endorse political candidates. But if the Colonel's interview is read closely, it will be clearly seen that no actual endorsement was made by her in this case.
D) In Argentina, refusing to vote is indeed illegal. However, the country has a long tradition of objecting to the law.
E) It is true that the law forbids landlords to increase a tenant's rent without three months’ notice. But there have been many landlords who have done so, regardless.

In the near future, safety experts will be able to perfectly identify any vehicular design flaw that might lead to an accident. Eventually, material sciences will grow so advanced that vehicle manufacturers will be able to ensure the resolution of any such flaw. Therefore, vehicles made by manufacturers who properly identify and resolve these flaws will never have an accident.

The argument above is based on which of the following assumptions?

A) For every vehicular design flaw, there is only one resolution that can prevent it from leading to an accident.
B) In the future, material sciences will be the only area of research of any importance to vehicle manufacturers.
C) Vehicle manufacturers will follow expert safety advice when they are convinced that it is effective.
D) All vehicles have some design flaw that can lead to an accident.
E) All vehicular accidents are in part the result of the vehicle’s design flaws.

adam-ben-and-clara-are-hired-to-weed-a-garden-at-a-community-center-457596.html

Adam, Ben, and Clara are hired to weed a garden at a community center. If Adam and Ben, working simultaneously and independently at their respective constant rates, can weed the garden in 6 hours, how long would Adam and Clara, working simultaneously and independently at their respective constant rates, take to weed the garden?

(1) Adam, Ben, and Clara, working simultaneously and independently at their respective constant rates, can weed the garden in 4 hours.
(2) Ben, working alone at his constant rate, would take 50% more time to weed the garden than Adam, working alone at her constant rate, would take.

a-research-labs-data-archive-increased-by-20-each-year-if-during-th-457595.html

Starting at the beginning of 2007, a research lab’s data archive increased by 20% each year for a whole number of years. If no data was deleted during this period, how many gigabytes of data were in the archive at the end of the period?

(1) By the end of the period, the amount of data in the archive had increased by 44%.
(2) If 360 gigabytes of data had been deleted at the beginning of the final year of the period, the amount of data in the archive at the end of the period would have been 12% less than its actual amount at the end of the period.
DS 1 - Neither is sufficient alone; both will be required to get the required work.

Please avoid posting only option answers in the chat. The links already contain the full question, discussion section, and solution space below them.

Right now the chat is becoming cluttered, and people have to scroll through random answers instead of directly attempting the questions from the source itself.

The ancient Spartans relied on conquest far more than did citizens of other, similarly sized Greek cities. Historians have hypothesized that it was a paucity of agricultural resources that drove the Spartans to subjugate so much foreign territory. This hypothesis is difficult to confirm directly, as sufficiently detailed records of Spartan agricultural output did not survive the medieval periods. However, careful comparison between the pattern of Sparta’s conquests and climate records kept by nearby civilizations show that the Spartans launched a higher number of military campaigns during years when regional agriculture suffered due to inclement weather. This indicates that there is some merit to the hypothesis.

In the argument given, the two boldfaced portions play which of the following roles?

A. The first presents an explanatory hypothesis; the second states the argument’s main conclusion.
B. The first presents an explanatory hypothesis; the second presents evidence in order to support an alternative explanation.
C. The first presents an explanatory hypothesis; the second presents evidence that tends to support this hypothesis.
D. The first describes a position opposed by the argument; the second presents evidence to undermine the support for the opposed position.
E. The first describes a position opposed by the argument; the second states the argument’s main conclusion.

A software has been designed to help nuclear power plants determine the necessity of an emergency shutdown, in the event of a drop in coolant pressure by analyzing the drop and comparing it against a database of 10,000 simulated nuclear coolant failure scenarios. The software is meant to help nuclear power plant workers determine whether a disruption in the plant’s coolant flow is severe enough to lead to a meltdown, necessitating an emergency shutdown.

In order to assess the effectiveness of the software for its stated purpose, it would be most helpful to establish which of the following?

A. Whether the nuclear coolant failure scenario database will receive regular updates of new simulations.
B. Whether nuclear power plant workers routinely misjudge the severity of drops in coolant pressure.
C. Whether a significant number of nuclear safety professionals will vouch for the software.
D. Whether the database also includes simulations of scenarios wherein coolant flow is stable.
E. Whether the use of this software will enable nuclear power plant workers to make sound decisions regarding the necessity of an emergency shutdown, before a meltdown occurs.

A regional express train normally travels from Northgate Station to Lakeside Station by its regular route and has a fixed scheduled travel time for that route. On one day, because of track maintenance, the train traveled from Northgate to Lakeside by a detour route instead. Was the train’s travel time that day more than 2 hours longer than the scheduled travel time?

(1) The train’s average (arithmetic mean) speed on the detour route differed from its average (arithmetic mean) speed on the regular route by no more than 20 kilometers per hour.
(2) The distance the train traveled on the detour route differed from the distance on the regular route by no more than 40 kilometers.

At a science quiz, Team Atlas consisted of Elena, Hugo, and Liam, and Team Nova consisted of Mia, Theo, and Nora. If a team’s score was the average (arithmetic mean) of the three scores earned by its members, what was Team Atlas’s score?

(1) Elena scored 15 points more than Mia, Hugo scored 6 points fewer than Theo, and Liam scored 18 points fewer than Nora.

(2) If Mia had scored 18 points more, Team Nova’s score would have been 20% greater than Team Atlas’s score.
