I would be grateful if any of you could evaluate my profile for the ISB PGP program:

10th Grade: 87% (State Board)

12th Grade: 84% (State Board)

Graduation: B.Com – 8.44 CGPA

Professional Qualification: Chartered Accountant (Nov 2022)

Work Experience:

(Big 4) – Tax Transfer Pricing Associate (Mar 2023 – Sept 2024)

Investment Banking – Associate (Primary Markets, Leading a Team of 3) (April 2025 – Present)

Extracurriculars: Limited

I would appreciate your honest feedback on:

My overall competitiveness for ISB PGP for R1 Sept 25.

The ideal GMAT or GRE score I should aim for to significantly strengthen my application, given the above.

Any suggestions to offset limited extracurricular involvement.

Smeetbhanu - some more details can help assess your profile better e.g. undergrad university, which functions/ domains you've worked in, any progression/ promotions in your roles, and was there a career gap (b/w Sep'24 and Apr'25).

While there's no one magic score, aiming for a 675+ GMAT or 328+ GRE would be ideal. Perhaps it sounds high, but given the (potential) competition, it's good to aim high!

Reg. extracurriculars, a common misconception many applicants have is that it has to be NGO related, athletics, or something BIG. Not necessarily. Any activities you're involved in besides your day-to-day role, whether it's within or outside your company counts. And quality (i.e. level of involvement, consistency) is more important than quantity (i.e. # of activities).

Hope this helps.

Interesting profile overall, yazlal25.

Some more details such as which companies you've worked in, extracurriculars, motivation for an MBA, and post-MBA career goals would help assess your profile better and in turn strengthen your application.

A 675+ GMAT would be good.

This rarely comes up but other than ISB, if you can manage to meet the statistical expectations, I can see this in Yale with $$. 🙂

- H/S GPA- 🧡
- I’m confused about the UG/Diploma timeline so if you could tell me that that would be great. Because I’m confused if you did BCA then B.Com or joint.
- UG GPA 💔😞
- UG Major 🙂🧡
- Decent ECs (somewhat well aligned. Nothing extraordinary tbh but alignment and purpose matter more than size of the impact 🙂) 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi sakshigautam77

It would be useful to add the reason for the 2-year gap. Business schools assess the profile and any personal shortcomings of candidates holistically, so this is relevant for a fair evaluation. Apart from that, the career growth progression looks decent, but I would have liked it if you had yourself offered a clearer picture of how you feel you have progressed in your career. The admissions committee will rely on you to tell your growth story, and simply naming job titles may actually underplay your achievements. This is something you should start practicing now, whether you are pitching your MBA candidacy or even in a job interview.

I also feel that your goals will need to be more thoroughly researched and sharply formulated, because you will be competing with candidates at ISB who may have stronger credentials, such as CAs or CFAs with all levels cleared, and who may seem more suited to the same roles you are targeting. So why you? What unique skills and knowledge do you bring to the table? Your goals strategy has to be highly researched and clearly targeted.

Feel free to speak should you want professional guidance.

Best wishes

ananmayakapur Hope you are well. BCN is a crowded pool within your peer group. What is your career growth progression story within the organisation? Try to aim for a 675, but know that this is perhaps just a baseline score that establishes your academic potential. The rest of the application, more specifically the uniqueness of your work and learnings, as well as a motivational and aspirational post-PGP goal will make or break your case.

Hi NikhilBajpai10

What do you want to do post-MBA? And how does your previous experience make you the best-suited candidate for these roles (only if you had the backing of a prestigious B-school)? You need not answer me here, but this is what you should reflect on before researching B-schools abroad. ISB is a strong feeder into tech/product roles in India, but the competition is tough. You need to accept that yours is a fairly generic profile in the eyes of the adcom, so you will have to put in significant work to speak about your experiences and impact in a way that helps you stand out. What is your long-term vision for your career? How do you plan to create a meaningful impact in your field? Try to aim upwards of 675, you will want to do considerably better than the average for your demographic. The higher, the better. With your kind of experience, it could very well come down to stats. If you are eligible, definitely consider IIM ABC for the PGP programs.

@ WA@jpg805 Hope you are doing well. Hope I can be frank in my evaluation here. If you have three years of experience all in the same or similar role (individual contributor type), you will likely struggle to build a strong career growth progression story. I have mentored a lot of young candidates at ISB, and I can tell you that the most important thing that gets them through is the ability to speak about very diverse learnings from their projects, which is also why it’s mostly applicants in business or consulting-related pre MBA roles who make it through, despite being on the lower end of the age and experience spectrum. Knowing this, you should now look back on your projects and work experience from this point of view and plan how you can project experiences and learnings that are relevant to an MBA. You will need to justify the need for one not because you are stagnating in your career, but because you are already reaching new heights and solving fresh challenges at work, a clear sign of growth progression. You should target upwards of 675, but know that it is just one element among many.
